I just used this app to update my DMH-WT3800NEX. It was a chore! I followed all the instructions on the app for it to connect for the update and it would just hang up while trying to transfer the update from phone to head unit.

My unit cost me $1000 and I can’t even update it because Pioneer hasn’t figured out how to connect two things wirelessly. My unit is still on the original out of the box firmware and runs like garbage. Worst purchase of my life.

Been a loyal Pioneer customer for 20 years. No more. Wireless CarPlay never worked reliably. Now after an upgrade from iPhone 11 to 16, CarPlay doesn’t work at all, wirelessly or wired. Tried iPhone network reset. Tried unit factory reset. Support never responds. Stay away from Pioneer head units these days.

The app and avassist seem like they were written a decade ago, clumsy and not so intuitive. I was wanting to do a firmware upgrade through my phone and hotspot. No go. My pioneer says no devices connected yet Apple play works fine. The message always appears about 3 minutes to 5 min (never really timed it). I urge the developers to update this mess please. Tks

Terrible, connection issues all around total waste of money.

This is complete garbage. I purchased the pioneer head unit in order to have CarPlay in my older car. The CarPlay works as expected. Pioneer claims that you use this app to update firmware and adjust settings. I was able to connect it once and from then on it won’t connect. Says blue tooth is not connected, but it is. There is a firmware update for my head unit, but I can’t install it. Pioneer makes good hardware, but their software is atrocious.

. . and that’s about it. I have bother Bluetooth and WiFi connected and working with Apple CarPlay and messages and everything else but this app - the PIONEER app - won’t connect. Don’t know what to tell you folks. Kinda expected a bit more from an established company. Hope you get it fixed soon.

I found this app not to be a necessity. I can do just about everything from the head unit directly without the app. The only thing I wanted the app for is a firmware update. I could have easily used a USB stick, but I got the app. Figuring out WI-Fi connection is misery, but I got it to connect to my phone hotspot and then made the transfer from phone to head unit. I give it a 3* because the app really needs to be clear for how to connect. It isn’t easy enough for the average user.

WiFi connected on hotspot tells me it’s not. Fix your app.

Using well over a year now, and if you aren’t prepared to re pair your phone and stereo and all the settings every couple weeks, don’t even bother buying a pioneer. This app is about as least iPhone friendly as it gets. They couldn’t have paid somebody to sabotage the iPhones compatibility while making this app.
