Cheq:UPI for Foreigners & NRIs

Initially I thought it was good, but then they introduced a 3% charge for adding balance to the app. Now, they won’t accept my UK card. Spoke to my bank and the problem is with Cheq not my bank but Cheq are claiming it’s not their problem. So now I don’t have any way to recharge the wallet. Given I paid 800rs joining fee it’s quite poor.

Worst app. Scam. Charging 800 rupees for joining fee. And its only valid till visa expires, this means 3 months or 1 year we don’t know. But you can’t use it for your next travel to India as it will expire and possibly then again you have to pay more fee to join if you want to access again once you return to India.

Jazz (onboarding staff) was very helpful, willing to come to your location to complete the verification. Smooth onboarding process and the app is easy to get set up on.

App would not let me register once I paid the $. Talked to their support who said they would reverse the app fee since it wasn’t working and wasn’t as promised. It’s been 2 weeks with no movement on their part. I would say stay away from the company and app.

Jazz was prompt to come to my hotel and help me get everything up and running. Saved me a ton of trouble!!

Cheq app works only with vendors who are registered as business. Many auto drivers, taxi drivers, and street vendors have not registered as a business. So we can’t pay them using this app. That’s almost 50% of them who can’t be paid as or my experience. So this app is not a replacement for NRIs for local GooglePay or PhonePay

The pro is that you can pay using UPI, the bad part is that it only works for larger businesses and not individuals or businesses using personal accounts. I’ve had some luck using it in the rickshaw, but today I tried using it and it wouldn’t pay the person since he was using an personal UPI. I ended up stuck, out of cash, and had to phone multiple local friends to help me pay the fare. The exchange fee was also a bummer. Had I known there were exchange fees and payment limitations, I would have just registered for a local UPI.
