English Heritage Days Out

Update Dec 24: App is now totally useless on iPad as no way to find places nearby and map is blank. It just about works on iPhone but is very clunky and slow and map is obscured by a red shading around your location. Might as well just use the website (though that is not one of the best either) Apart from showing you potential places to visit, this app is virtually useless. In particular if you select a date to view opening times and prices etc. nothing happens. It is also very clunky, especially if when compared with say the excellent National Trust app.

One of the worst apps for such a large organisation

the app gives a list or map of the closest sights to you, and all the info about them you would need. everything works fine. However i feel like the app could be a lot more: having a digital membership card, we dont need physical cards which can get lost anymore. and the store on the app would help keep everything in one place. app is fine though

If you are looking to use the app don’t bother. It freezes when looking for opening times, the search function doesn’t work. If you want entry fees or information you are directed to use the website. It still says you need to book as per Covid but you don’t. Finally NO updates in 3 years. EH could really do with looking at the National Trust app as that works very well and is updated daily if sites are closed.

When clicking on a map no map actually shows, just a gray page with heritage icons dotted around. The only time a map appears is for “Near Me” but only for a 25m radius of your home, move away and there is no map.

Absolutely hopeless app

On iOS and some pages are off the screen. Lacks easy to read information on the properties. Plenty of ‘why not be a member’ like in the members magazine. No links to Maps. Look at the NT app which is so easy to use. Very disappointing

It’s about time this app got updated. It hasn’t worked since it came out. It useless. Unless you know the name of the property it can’t find it, unless you go through all of them. It’s easier to google a place than use this app Take a look at the National Trust app.

There appears to be no way of finding places near my current location the map view of all sites list remains blank even with a good WiFi signal. Descriptions are brief with the app switching to internet browser at the slightest opportunity. Whilst this might be fine at home with WiFi it is next to useless when the site you are on has limited or no network connectivity (a large proportion of EH sites I would have thought). Very poor. At least it’s obvious none of our membership fees are being spent on the app!

For an organisation like English Heritage to have presented this app in an such a, frankly, useless state for so many years, is not only a disgrace, it is an insult to those who pay for its services. For all of the Board of Directors, including the Chairman, this appears to serve very much as an ancillary and seemingly a ‘trophy’ role. And it shows in the rubbish they are prepared to serve up to their members.
