FINAL FANTASY XIV Companion

Its handy for checking what listings sold and updating your retainers for when you log in, neatly displays your gil haul in game if you checked your retainers one by one on the app earlier. However the worst part of the app is the microtransactions, while I get it would be horrendous to compete with marketboard undercuts if everyone can update them at any time to undercut you, paying for coins to update each individual listing would cost you more money than the cost of an entire expansion. If you have 6 retainers with 20 listings each you would spend around 5 euros or dollars or whatever to update 5 listings. If you do the math you would bankrupt yourself to do that. So this feature for a solid 99% of the playerbase if not 100% is entirely useless and impossible to maintain. Every other feature on it is just flair, the chats would be great if it included cross world linkshells instead of just private tells to individual players but at least it offers that. Compared to other mmos it is terrible as with games like WoW many of these marketboard features are free.

It's not enough to pay monthly subscription for the game, you have to pay to use the companion app's features if you want mode than just staring at your invenție? Such greed -.- Competitor games have this functionality free ffs

Crashes whenever booting up :/

Seemed to always crash on launch on iOS 11. Did a clean install of iOS 12 and still crashes on launch.

Worthless does nothing that’s worth it

While many people fall over the ubiquitous microtransactions in this app, I mainly feel it falls short on what it wants to deliver. The app is notoriously slow (I did not have the chance to use chat yet) but most problems are caused by silly decisions on Square Enix’ part. My biggest qualm is that whenever you want to access items or the marketboard, fairly long loading times ensue, followed by more loading times. When switching between retainers in the items view, the app has to grab the cache wverytime you leave the items menu, giving more (unneccessary) loading times whereas they could let the app grab all inventories in one go, even if that would make the initial loading time longer it would improve useability of the item tab. Similar problems exist for the marketboard, where finding an item and loding it’s prices simply take too long to be described as user friendly. All in all I hope they improve the app, as it is now I will not be using it at all, except for occassionally logging into the app to ensure my extra in-game teleport cost reduction stays active.

After subscription to the game you have micro transactions in order to use this apps full functionality!! Not really fair!! Ps release more physical security tokens if you’re closing down the software security key please

I tried to sign in, with the details I had saved on my phone from logging in to The Lodestone. Apparently they are incorrect, yet I try to log in to my account there, they are correct. It’s absolute garbage.

Square Enix are an incredible game dev. As a whole they make amazing games and FF14 is one of them. However to charge for kupo nuts to be able to sell items is a huge miss and appalling. If they changes this the app would be actually useful. Very disappointing. Im shocked they have not addressed this

I have been playing XIV for years and it’s my favourite game, I absolutely adore it. The same can’t be said for this app however, as it’s existence serves as nothing more than accessing some extra on-person storage in game, and behind a paywall no less. It’s purpose is very niche, I don’t know anyone who’s desperate enough to play the market board or access their inventory when they’re not logged into the game. Frankly, I’m shocked they haven’t discontinued this app and offered the extra storage through other means. Overall, it’s an incredibly disappointing outlier next to the MMO, and couldn’t be further from representing the usual high quality surrounding the game.
