Perplexed …
Hadn’t opened this app since, well couldn’t remember when. I saw that it was updated yesterday. Today I launched it and selected my Eve Sensor and something very weird started happening. Things started turning on and off repeatedly. At first I thought it was a brownout because appliances came back on with in a second or two. I could hear the Smart Switches clicking on and off and other appliances shutting off and starting up. But then I noticed not everything was turning on and off. Only one side of the room. So it wasn’t a brownout. Was it was coincidental that it happened the second I touched the Eve icon? I don’t know. So I tapped the Eve icon again and the switching stopped. I think. I tapped the icon again and the icon opened and that side of the room started to power cycle again...! This freaked me out a bit so I shut down the app and everything went back to normal. I have never had anything like this happen before. I’ve been using “smart” apps and Devices since 2016. I’ve had a few gateways play up and stop working indeed I have a Netvox Gateway that started malfunctioning a few weeks ago but it’s a closed system and those devices were not involved. This appeared to be another (ZigBee) Gateway but I can’t be sure, it only lasted maybe 15 seconds before I shut the app down and everything went back to normal. It freaked me out quite a bit. It’s Electricty we are dealing with here and when things start to flash on and off you get concerned about a number of possibilities as to the cause. There was no smoke, fire or even smell and everything went back to normal after this app was shutdown. I’m reluctant to launch it again. I’m not interested in problem solving it. I suspect there is a conflict with some aspect of Controllers over Devices. What normally happens is that an App will tell you if it has control over a device or hub and if it hasn’t got control it will ask you to allow it to take control. In this instance the only plausible explanation I can think of is that this app has begun an arm wrestle with another controller to try and take control of a gateway or devices causing the devices state to conflict with one turning them on and another turning them off. But I don’t know. I don’t want to test this hypothesis, I have enough chaos in my life with out the appliances going berserk around me. My Smart Home has never become a Crazy Home before today. And I don’t like it. I post this only to see if anyone else has experienced this
