Pastel Daily Kana Quiz (Hiragana & Katakana Test)

The best flashcard based app I have found. Very easy to use and the feature where you can personalise what characters you need to learn is incredibly helpful.

Nice to look at but in no way has enough features to warrant a £5 purchase

This app is aesthetically great but it needs at least a toggle for the Kana to be read out loud. Bridging the gap between the sound of a Kana and how it’s written is the most important thing, not translating it into Romaji characters.

The purpose of the kana is to transcribe the sounds of the Japanese language, so any tool that trains or tests ability in the kana needs to offer audio of what sound each kana represents. This app gives no audio (readings) for any of the kana, meaning it is unable to train or test your your ability to understand the kana. This is a shame, because it's an absolutely beautiful app to look at.

This is such an adorable little app but £5 for the full version is just way too much.

Totally gorgeous, with a wonderful colour palette, and two different modes for practicing hiragana and katakana. It's perfect aside from the fact that you will always get one answer "wrong" as the timer runs out and you're unable to answer the final question. This is made even more infuriating as you're then presented with a message telling you to aim for 100% next time! I'm also not in love with how it takes an extra moment to show you your wrong answer - I definitely appreciate the chance to review my mistake, but I feel like it goes on a few moments too long, which really matter when you're on a timer. I'd definitely recommend this app, but there is also room for improvement, and it'd be neat having a non-timed mode (you set how many reviews you want to do, instead).

a great app, you can customise which characters you use in the quiz which means you can gradually add more until you have all the kana. also, it's very pleasing to the eyes unlike a lot of other apps. overall an excellent app. 👍

I'm currently learning hiragana and this app is really helpful in remembering how the characters sound. My only suggestion for improvement would be to give the users more time to enter their answer as for a learner it goes too quick! But overall a great app to keep on top of your studies!

A very fun and pretty app to learn kana. No problems at all with the app - it's perfect.

I’ve been using this app on and off for a few years and purchased the extension for more characters. It’s fast paced so you have to keep up with the characters! The only thing that I would recommend is that you can hide the romanji and only show the character so you’re not forced to second guess yourself. I also noticed that when I use headphones a lot of the characters SOUND the same. I thought I was crazy getting the characters wrong when I HEARD it but turns out that wasn’t my hearing problem. Hope y’all can fix this!
