Simple Flying - Aviation News

If I had 4 thumbs, I’d give this app 4 thumbs down. (1) I used to enjoy this app pretty much on a daily basis, but beginning in early December 2024 the app started forcing advertisement after advertisement at me to the point where the app is unusable. (2) The app used to just have occasional advertisements embedded in the articles, but now the screen is about 90% filled with multiple advertisements including ~50% taken up by embedded ads, ~20% with an ad docked toward the bottom, and ~20% random pop up videos while constantly opening some random webpage in Safari every few seconds without me clicking on anything. (3) Has the code for this app been compromised by hackers?? (4) I totally understand running an app has expenses and finding a way to monetize the app is 100% fair, but do it in a less obnoxious way!! (5) If things don’t change for the better in the next week or two, the app will definitely be deleted.

The website is better, the app doesn’t let me link my account from the website, I hate this app. Definitely staying on the website which is better

Easy to navigate if you have kids that like planes this app will show them everything that is happening in real time

This publication keeps me abreast of all the relevant issues happening in commercial aviation.

Wow went from once upon a time great av geek website to just-another-news trash site. App just loads the web page with barely any formatting. And now if you don’t make an account you can’t even view articles…. Just go to the website or better yet ANY other av news site.

This is the best aviation news app! I love simple flying and are subscribed to their YouTube channel! I am the owner of the YouTube channel Aviation Wing TV, and I rely on Simple flying to get my hands on aviation news! Also, the app itself is amazing! Responsive, and it works great! The news articles are also very awesome!

I have been a long time reader of simple flying for years it’s still one of the best platforms for aviation news. That being said it seems since the site was acquired in the fall of 2021 the new direction has given us an app which does not meet the standards we are used to. The old app allowed us to pay for an ad free experience and actually allowed us to save favorite articles and was designed for the reader. Then we were told we are building a new app for you and the app was broken for months. We were then provided this current app which feels like it is just a wrapper containing the site and not a experience anymore. It feels like the app we were promised was from the old leadership and new leadership had decided to just get the app back running and that’s good enough rather then provide us an app which we could actually use day in and day out. My question is will we ever see the day when the app is back to its former glory and returned to the reader the experience we are used to. Will this app ever be updated as it feels abandoned nearly 6 months later.
