I am just on the spare room now. It’s more like a complain than a review. For my room hunting, I literally messaged over hundreds of people searching for a room but only 10 replied. Some of them have rooms ad in spare room but the room is already booked or filled. Some will keep you on seen. I don’t know what to say.

Most people never respond. I think most of the houses are fake.

This app is a good concept but there’s no option to block and customer service doesn’t care about reports. Their ‘automated reply’ option which is the closest a user can come to protecting their privacy doesn’t work on iPhones. Their subscription service is a joke. The app randomly picks ads that users cannot contact without paying for a membership.

Its a good app i would give it 5 stars but i feel like this app could do with an option to where you dont wanna see certain places for eg. You can select to not show any places in ipswich but others around it besides from this the app is amazing definitely the best room finder here

Spoke with the member of staff after no success and they told me litterly that I am not getting refunded because UK consumer law only lasts 14days I paid for 4 weeks success guaranteed and didn’t get it. I’ve requested the phone call recordings which clearly state that the success guarantee isn’t worded correctly. No refund offered. Absolutely astonished.

There’s one huge flaw with using this as a paying landlord. The landlord might well pay for early bird service but would-be tenants can view your advert and just spam over a question such as “is the room available” but WITHOUT having an advert of their own. This leads to loads of spam messages from tenants who often haven’t read your advert and so either aren’t suitable or the property doesn’t meet their needs. You can’t check as they don’t have an advert! It’s also quite obvious that often the sender hasn’t read your advert. What a waste of my time replying 3-4 messages back and forth to people trying work if it’s worth doing a viewing! I’ve reported this as feedback every year for ten years! They refuse to change the app.... Meanwhile you’ve paid for the privilege to get loads of spam! The whole point is to see if a room matches what a tenants needs and vice versa, not to open up a spam line. Oh I’ve sent feedback multiple times about this and the developers refuse to change their offering. Next - people without adverts are passing your details around to friends and friends of friends who may then turn up on the door asking to view completely unsolicited! This has got to stop. Please stop people from being able to message an advert WITHOUT AN ADVERTISEMENT OF THEIR OWN. Final footnote early bird service cost £80 for a year a few years ago now it’s. £90 for six months. So it’s twice as expensive.... So sorry, but you get two stars. Also there is a con with this app. They offer free adverts and viewers can send you a message after 7 days, but in reality of an advert ‘renews’ or is edited in any slight way its treated as ‘new’ again so folks can’t email for Another 7 days. So you may wait patiently to make an enquiry only to find you can’t… this is an obvious ploy to draw you in then make money by forcing you to upgrade. I’ve also had shocking service trying to claim the 30 days extra for free if you don’t rent in the first 30 days you’ve paid for. It so difficult claim if you can’t do it through the app you have to email them and only in a few days time period at the end of your 30 days or you lose the option. Again a con really. Promising something which isn’t easy to claim. Another bug - I’ve saved a search for certain types of tenant. Oddly it now forces me to select either a search for males or females but not both! So I have to either search for one then switch my search to the other instead of doing it one search!

I have lodgers in my home and find Spareroom provides an excellent responsive service enabling me to book in a suitable lodger within a week of advertising. I am delighted with Spareroom. Jane
