Sporcle

Having been forced to delete the old version of the Sporcle app (which I’d paid for), this new version was hoped to be an improvement. Instead the move to a subscription model has killed it for me. I refuse to pay the monthly fee and there are so many pop ups it makes the app unusable. It’s also really hard to find any decent new quizzes. Sporcle used to be a big part of my life, regularly using it before bed or on long journeys. Safe to say it isn’t anymore.

Puzzles to suit all moods and abilities. Makes you search your memory for those answers that you know are there somewhere

I absolutely love this app. Really easy to navigate around the app and making your own quizzes and challenges is really straight forward. It’s really helped me in revision and is great for when I’m bored and want to test myself on various topics. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews about this app regarding adverts. I hardly get any. Once every 3 quizzes or so, and they are only short ones. Also quite a few people saying their app freezes after a while. This may have been the case before so it may have been patched but I have absolutely no issues with the app being slow or freezing. The only thing I can think of to improve is maybe introducing app widgets for phones. They could perhaps display the badges you are closest to earning, recent activities, or your streak.

I used to play Sporcle quizzes daily on the old app. I like having the option for different formats of quiz but am finding it laborious having to fight through ads to actually play any quizzes. A monthly payment for a game is something I just can’t justify. I also wish there was a way (if there is I haven’t found it) to link your old progress and scores to the new app.

A fun app and good for practicing all kinds of general knowledge etc. Unfortunately adds crash the app pretty often stopping you from seeing the results of your last quiz :(

Hours and hours of fun, honing my skill and also learning new things along the way. A brilliant app to use on the go instead of just scrolling aimlessly through social media, and there are millions of options to quiz about something you’re interested in or to learn something new!

This replacement app is awful. Adverts, subscriptions, can’t save quizzes without subscriptions. Search is dreadful and took me 3 attempts to get what I was looking for. It’s a downgrade in almost every sense and the fact that you’re now requesting for money for people to get the features they previously had is irritating. Guess you’ve forced my hand into going elsewhere for something to do while I’m in a waiting room or on the toilet

So many ads. The old app was so much better. A simple experience that actually gave customers what they wanted.

The legacy Sporcle was one of the first apps I downloaded on my phone. Loved it! Easy layout, great quizzes, my ‘go to’ app to while away some time. Played it for years on a daily basis. And then the devs ruined it. Confusing layout, pic quizzes that are impossible to see on a phone, ads all over the place, and they want £6 a month for the super-duper adfree version! A great example of how ruin an app in the pursuit of money…
