I used Unwinding Anxiety in conjunction with talk therapy. I found the combination to be quite effective in starting to understand, accept, and lessen the anxiety attacks and generalized anxiety that has accompanied me since childhood almost 60 years ago. The program is based on Buddhist philosophical concepts like mindfulness, equanimity, and loving-kindness. Although you do not need familiarity with these concepts, if you, like I, hav an interest in meditation and other Buddhist concepts you will find resonance here. That said, this app works standalone, is not dogmatic, and works only by experimenting with the very concrete and personal experiences in your mind and body. Nothing to accept on faith, and all backed up by modern neuroscience. I think the biggest insight for me that came out of using this app was that just like mindfulness practices where you watch thoughts arise in the mind but learn to become more accepting and less attached (responding instead of reacting), so to can you watch sensations arise in the body and the emotions that follow and become more accepting and less attached.
I feel these lessons are too long and verbose for someone who is struggling-I also would like for you to give the option of a female coach for women who’ve been abused by men. I can’t stand to listen to this man.
Only in my first week of using the app - the module based learning has been SUPER helpful and allows you to go at your own pace. Highly recommend for anyone suffering with anxiety and looking for a different path to getting better!

So, I tried to give this app another chance after listing to a repeat of a pod I follow. Nothing has changed and the price simply isn’t worth the content.. I’m sure it’s worked albeit temporarily for some, but the way he speaks throughout gets under my skin.. If you deal with moderate anxiety, this my give you some basic strategies to cope but for the seriously troubled.. the doc sounds childish and condescending.. there were actually eye rolling moments for me.. Queue the generic developer response… Thanks for your feedback Blah blah journey .. best of luck blah blah
I lived my whole 60+ years trying to contain my anxiety and worrying. Of all the things I tried and they were many this app turned out to be the most effective. In three years I learned a whole lot about what’s going on and most importantly what to do or not to do. And the change has been remarkable. I found the material both fascinating, extremely well presented and easy to digest. The techniques can be done at the moment, don’t require a lot of time or particular conditions. Well done, Dr Jud!!!
I have been using Unwinding Anxiety for about 10 months and I have found it to be helpful and enlightening. I am leaning about my habit loops, which I have lived with for decades. I’m challenging myself to get out of those loops by noting, asking what they do for me, and thinking about where they come from. I have accumulated a lot of information. Now my task is to always be mindful of the loops so that I don’t become entangled in them. Easier said than done, but with UA, I am less likely to get stuck.
I’ve been using this app to incorporate mindfulness skills to help cope with generalized anxiety disorder. The app breaks things down in a way that makes mindfulness approachable and breaks down concepts in an easy to understand way. Dr. Brewer’s program helps build great skills and takes practice, but it’s been rewarding to stick with it.
Program was great and got me through a rough spot but then it was very hard to cancel. Directions said to press the cancel button but then said to go to iTunes and I wasn’t able to cancel. It’s funny how an app is supposed to decrease stress but is now causing it.
