Description

BANISH. The #1 Safari Extension to block annoying 'Open in App' popups & other dark patterns on the web.

“Banish does one thing and does it well: it nukes dickpanels in Safari on iPhone and iPad”
— John Gruber, Daring Fireball

"The app proved incredibly useful. For instance, when on Quora, clicking a link to another Quora page would normally pop up a blocker that requires you to log in to continue navigating the website. With Banish, this pop-up was gone and you could use the site normally"
— Sarah Perez, TechCrunch

Perfect! Like an adblocker but for ‘open in app’ / ‘upgrade your sub’ overlays gone crazy

iDickinson on

I’m a paying subscriber on a bunch of sites; New York Times, Guardian, and often search reddit for answers. Using Safari, I’m getting constant overlays nagging me to read in app, or upgrade subscription - NYTimes being worst recently. Installed this, instantly solved. Like a glass of ice water!

Fantastic, must-have Safari extension

Davidpavid on

Makes the web infinitely more pleasant to use on a daily basis. The latest version unfortunately does seem to break twitter upon blocking their login interstitial, but hopefully that’ll get fixed at some point.

It can’t block smart banners 😡

Artem_yak on

I bought this before seeing the note about smart banners and now it’s useless to me because I still need the apps installed. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Not for me

RBJ001 on

I’m sorry I think I misunderstood what this was all about…. Having read some misleading reviews I guess. I hate that some companies; Reddit, Evernote force you to use the app when in IOS. There is no way to open the actual website since you are thrown into the app. Evernote is particular good at this. You try all the tricks, open in background etc… it slams you into the app….. So I had read that Banish could prevent this. But it doesn’t. I enabled everything as stated and still get thrown into the App Store if I try to log into Evernote. Reddit also just opened my app, but I am less bothered about that So I don’t really know what else it is used for, that was my only irritation with safari!!

Thought It Would Remove "Open in app" -It doesn't

.Psamathe on

Wasted money. wanted to get rid of the "open in app" and it just does not do that. So complete wasted money (I already have content blockers". App description somewhat misleading.

Disappointing

Jordskimol on

Only £2.50 but disappointing to have paid for this exclusively to remove the “open in app” pop ups on YouTube and Amazon to find they actually just quite simply remain and the extension does nothing.

Works well

Game changer

I can now view Reddit without the pops this get rid of them all including :- use the app there are more cats, also removed the allowing you can’t view this here view in app take me back to safety! Not tested with other side but this is a game charger so far! Worth every penny just!

Most Useful App In Years

Louishps on

It makes the internet useable again on iPhone.

Data Collector?

mugastao on

This app clearly states this in the settings when allowing access: “This extension can read and alter web pages you visit and see your browsing history on all websites. This includes sensitive information from web pages, including passwords, phone numbers and credit cards.” Not sure if it’s collecting or just reading but anyone seeing sensitive info is a massive red flag! Be cautious! I’ve already requested a refund and deleted the app.
