I have been using Blink for nearly a year now on my iPad Pro. and must say it has work flawlessly for me both ssh and particularly mosh. I use Blink to manage my EC2 instance and all of my Raspberry PIs which runs in headless mode.
I noticed today (12/02/2022) a 14 sash across the app’s icon and that it’s marked as Legacy pointing users to the new Blink shell.
The new app carries a plus feature and £17.99 annual fee.
A terminal with no killer features
As a non-dev who uses SSH and SFTP to provide remote support I found Blink to be utterly lacking in any killer features.
No snippet support, no easy SFTP support, no basic GUI if you wanted to use it. Apart from the dev-friendly code command there really is nothing more that a terminal.
Support is by Twitter or Github so never answer questions, the docs are awful and just like the app the whole thing is a bit of a mess.
They offer a "community edition" which is nothing more that a testflight version of the app.
As a dev platform I imagine it's good but for the rest of the world there are many more good reasons why Termius is a much better choice.
Save your cash and bypass Blink.
Excellent
Have been using this app for a few years now and have to say it is simply excellent. It has a mosh client built in, so you no longer have to worry about disconnects when on the move or the dreaded iOS timeout. I am absolutely in love with this app - it ticks all the boxes and is worth every penny. Please keep up to the good work!!!
Poor
Sadly doesn’t work with my connection to AWS due to poor management of keys - don’t waste your money
Great but occasionally twitchy
For the 95% of the time when everything works as expected, Blink is fantastic. I have found it to be rock solid and use it as the primary interface to my servers.
The other 5% is when connecting via mosh randomly hangs with no timeout. I do not seem to have this issue when logging in with ssh.
Problems aside, this is still a great shell app.
so handy for remote working
I'm a python developer and regularly work remotely from home.
This one app enables me to do so.
I can mosh into my machines at work and power up a tmux session.
I use an external Apple keyboard and this is the first app where pretty much all the keys and key combinations work. Such a happy Emacs user at last :)
A big thumbs up from me.
Excellent
Brilliant ssh and mosh client, type “config” to get started.
Brilliant
Best ssh client around....and I no longer use ssh because mosh is awesome.
Could do with the option to display a list box of servers if you type ssh or mosh without a server name. A Mac OS version would go down a treat.
Seems very basic, but it’s absolutely spot on and beautiful, you’ll wonder how you managed without it for so long.
Mosh
Mosh support invaluable on mobile device, best remote terminal app on iOS that I know of so far as a result.
Much less stable since the switch to libssh
Since Blink was moved over to using libssh in a recent update, I've found its session handling to be much less stable. Sometimes I randomly get disconnected when trying to log in, other times I get stuck in a strange state where my keyboard input is half-switched between a local Blink prompt and my actual remote SSH session, and other times it just fails with weird errors when connecting and then works if you try it again. I'm sure they had their reasons for doing this, but regardless, it's made for a less pleasant user experience for sure.
