BlitzortungLive FAQ
Is BlitzortungLive free?
Yes, BlitzortungLive is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is BlitzortungLive legit?
🤔 The BlitzortungLive app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I love having this app for several reasons.
Handy to know when to clear the kids out of the pool or find proper shelter when out. Also warns me it’s time to unplug my ham radio antennas.
I only wish the iOS app would show me rainfall/fronts/storms like on the Windows desktop website. Maybe not the easiest to code or it may slow lightning alerts- I’m not an app developer so I wouldn’t know.
Also, the strike indicators should be bigger/brighter and have slower decay rates.
That would have to be my only wish for a future update.
I recommend this app to everyone who may need to be alerted to approaching electrical storms.
Gave it 4/5 ONLY because the ability to see the rain associated with the lightning is important and for the challenges seeing the strike indicators.
Really useful!
Great app, as you can track incoming storms.
Nice App
I like it for warnings and to observe the weather from a safe place.
Curiously misses some major lightning
Many times I have seen lightning not picked up by this app. I often wonder if the size of the bolt matters.
Clunky interface, often fails
Very rough interface, lacks obvious features like automatically updating the notification zone based on your current location. Half the time it simply doesn’t work.
Thankfully once you get it set up, the push alerts are all you need.
Great App
I use this when cutting grass at our local airport. It lets me know when lightning strikes. Once I get a hit 25 miles out, I’m off the field. Very handy!
When it doesn’t crash, it’s ok.
Crashes constantly when zooming and moving the map.
Doesn’t work
Major thunderstorm going on right now, and the app isn’t showing any strikes for my area.
Love it
Great to see what’s happening live...did I mention live? And as a sailor, the app helps even further with interpreting the weather. Recommended.
Varies by where you live.
I really like this App but the data quality varies by the number of stations in your area and the geography. When I lived in the mid-Atlantic states in the US, the thunder arrived within a few seconds of when the App displayed. Now that I live in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the system seems to not pick up about half of our strikes. Still entertaining to use and gives some warning of approaching storms.
