Doesn’t always work

Doesn’t always work across devices.

Great replacement for LastPass

IH & AH on

I have been a LastPass user for the last four years but after their recent security failures, I felt I couldn’t trust them anymore. Their product was great, but their approach to security was not. After researching lots of alternatives, I found Synology C2 Password. I already have a few Synology products, all of which work well, giving me a positive experience of the company. This little password app appears to be a work in progress with improvements coming all the time, but the basic features are fully operational and work great. The best bit is it’s free, unless you wish to share passwords with others, then there is a small annual fee, very small by comparison with the top password managers. I would strongly recommend this app. Synology are a solid company who have huge experience in data storage. Download it and try it out. You’ll find it difficult to justify the price of alternative.

I am loving it so far

Eloquently Emma on

I’ve just started using the c2 password manager website and app and I have to say that I really really like it. It automatically syncs everything between my PC and my phone seamlessly. Before I used keypass and I found that I had to spend a lot of time ensuring that the databases remained at least relatively similar. I also love that I can choose where my data is stored (EU, US…) and that I can export a copy for storage elsewhere. I’ve not tried importing the file back in as I don’t want to trash my existing data or end up with a load of duplicates. It would be nice to be able to store my data on my own cloud server, but I can understand why this is not an option. Although the ability to run it from a Synology Nas would be rather cool. Having said that, there are a couple of minor things that I found were slightly inconvenient. It c2 doesn’t seem to play nicely with Safari, but I usually just cut and paste anyway so I can live with that for the most part - I like the integration with Edge. A nice little lightweight PC app would be nice - maybe something that can be integrated with the Portable Apps platform (https://portableapps.com), but again, that is something I can live without. On both the site and the app, it is not possible to add a new record from the tags screen. I have structured my data around using tags, and entering a significant number of records at once meant that I’d have to continuously switch between the category screen and the tags screen to view my data. Most of my data is in the form of login records (73 out of 88) so filtering on category types is mostly pointless for me. It would be nice to create my own category template with their own names as the existing ones don’t always suit my data. I don’t know if it’s possible to Add Custom Field and then save it as a new category. If it is, then please mention that somewhere. I would love it, if instead of the categories describing the data template which is being used, you’d make it possible to have a full hierarchical structure with folders and subfolders for the data, I have home and work passwords and for work passwords, I have three different projects/departments and in each of those a few different passwords. If I add much more data, the Id think that I’d struggle with just using the tags so folders would be a nice option to have. An option to have hidden folders/subfolders would also be nice, or to set an additional layer of security such as an additional simple password for

Setting Up Priblems

jinkertsun on

Trying to set up an account and got to the section where the activation key should be saved in case if future problems. On the iPhone 13 this proved to be impossible as the numbers were partially covered by the next button so a screenshot wouldn’t be any good. The next problem is I couldn’t cut n paste the numbers as that wouldn’t work. I couldn’t go back and clicking next just deleted everything. Bit useless to be honest.

So much potential

P Maddy on

So much potential for this app, easy to use and syncs brilliantly. Only downside is, it does not seem to work with the Microsoft Edge app on iOS. Any ideas?

Poor app with a bit of promise

Garpsworld on

The app really needs updating especially when you cant add a password or generate them as said before this is read only come on synology even free and cheap software out there for passwords lets you do more and even in the main web page version when adding a login the password generator not on the menu for that login you have go back to the main page find generator from a drop down menu generate one then copy then start again adding a new password. Come on Synology tour better that this

Half baked

sgb99c on

App is read-only and their website where you can edit data doesn’t render correctly on a mobile device. Also doesn’t have a password generator or support for authenticator codes. Typical Synology launching a half-baked product, might be good one-day but right now it’s not much use.

Other better free products out there.

Adam Lacey on

I didn't even download it as just reading what you get with the free package isn't much at all. There are other completely free password managers with more freedom out there. Based on the read only comment above there doesn't seem to be much point in it as most people work mostly from their phones and require that extra control.
