Description
Callipeg is a 2D hand-drawn animation application made for iPad and Apple Pencil (required).
You will get a fully manageable timeline, within a simple and decluttered interface designed for gestures and Apple Pencil.
• Studio
Order your shots by dragging them, organize them into scenes and folders
Use color tags to sort your assets as well as other filter options
Where is that shot again? Just type the name or number in the search bar to find it
• Interface
Create shots using the frame rate you need: 12, 24, 25, 30, 60 frames per second...
Work up to 4K size
Add as many layers as you need
Switch to left-handed interface
Clear the canvas, copy-paste and have your color palette at your fingertips with the floating menu
• Gestures
Display the floating menu with a long touch with two fingers
Flip your animation with three fingers
Play and Pause your animation with four fingers
Frame your drawing with four fingers to transform it
Slice your sheets with your finger to split them
Tap-tap drag to select and move your drawings around, even through layers
• Tools
Callipeg has a complete brush set including pencil, pencil HB, charcoal, china marker, flat brush, Indian ink, soft pencil,...
And you can create yours with a fully manageable brush settings panel (from smoothing to tip customization and texture)
Choose color with the color wheel, the sliders or create your own palettes for your projects. Enjoy also the color history to never lose a color again
Color your drawings using the fill tool. You can adjust the range by dragging the slider
Set the color and opacity of onion skin. Display up to 8 frames before and after
Move your drawings within the onion skin using the Out of Pegs feature
Select and transform your drawings with the selection tool
• Layer types
Callipeg offers different types of layers that allow you to work with multiple contents:
Drawing layer, where you can add sheets, import pictures to your sheets, set their timing, add inbetweens
Video layer, where you can import video clips, adjust their playing speed and break them into sheets (rasterize)
Transformation layer, where you can create keyframes, nest your drawing layers and animate your drawings easily with our curve system
Audio layer, where you can import soundtracks, record yourself, adjust the volume, create fade-in/out
Group layer, where you can organize your layers by group, even subgroup and keep your layer stack nice and tidy
• Customization
Add colors to your layers and manage them using the color library system
Import reference images, as many as you want
Place the side bar on the right or on the left
Invert the canvas to check the proportion of your drawing
• Import/Export
Export your animations to:
.mp4 / .hevc / .gif / .png (including your layers structure if you need it) / .tga / .psd / .peg
Stay flexible with json, xdts and oca formats allowing you to move your work to another program
Import json and xdts files to restore your timing and layer structure
At the end of the 7-days trial period, you will have to choose between 3 plans to continue using the app.
For monthly and yearly subscriptions, the purchase will be applied to your iTunes account on confirmation. Subscriptions will automatically renew unless cancelled within 24-hours before the end of the current period. You can cancel anytime with your iTunes or Apple ID account settings. I wish there were a way to purchase during the trial period. I see no commerce button in the App Store, on the website or anywhere.
Lag
This is the first time that happened, but the app’s been lagging a lot. There’s a delay on the brush, it’s pretty apparent and annoying. I have an iPad Pro 2020, updated on all the updates as well.
Deceptive
The App Store listing clearly states a 7 day trial before having to choose a plan but the app forces you to subscribe before you can use it.
WOW!
This app is fantastic! So well thought out in its interface design - clean, efficient, and constantly evolving as the needs arise. Not just for traditional animators, but a great option for motion graphics too. Bye-bye After Effects! Love the new features for transformations (ie Opacity), would love to see even more options for After Effects-like abilities and more advanced compositing tools. (Ie. for Transformations, moving beyond Position,Scale, Rotation Opacity ) Would love to see things like 3rd party plugins to apply glows, drop-shadows, lens flares, 3D effects, Font support, etc. Tried importing multi-layered PDFs from Graphic vector graphics app, also tried exporting from Procreate, but it seemed to only come in as one merged layer for some reason - maybe its me ;) Would love to see support for importing and manipulation vector shapes (.cvs format support, masking etc.) Other things I love about the UI design - the keyboard shortcuts are great, the easy splicing of multiple sheets, duplicating etc. are all intuitive and fast! Onion-skinning controls are perfect, and the other user options provided are robust. Thank you, I’ve been waiting for this kind or professional power in an iPad app! Keep up the great work, Callipeg team!!
Keep crashing
Would give it 3-4 stars but it keeps crashing for no apparent reason. Has a lot of basic features that are a must have for simple animation and boarding like layer keying/tweening,cycles, multi-select etc. but is also quite buggy. Brushes are fairly ok wish it had more settings to tweak. Colour fill bucket is affected by lower layers without a way(that I know of) to toggle it on/off. This app has really good potential just wish it wasn’t so buggy.
Great Concept, but buggy
Great concept, however kinda hard to pick up and learn, coming from an avid Adobe user… the app is somewhat unresponsive/slow, which makes it bothersome to use, especially on the frame/timeline. Click a frame and does not do anything… or does something twice because you had to click it multiple times to respond. Frustrating. Needs improvement before I purchase.
