Callipeg is a 2D hand-drawn animation application made for iPad and Apple Pencil (required).
You will get a fully manageable timeline, within a simple and decluttered interface designed for gestures and Apple Pencil.
• Studio
Order your shots by dragging them, organize them into scenes and folders
Use color tags to sort your assets as well as other filter options
Where is that shot again? Just type the name or number in the search bar to find it
• Interface
Create shots using the frame rate you need: 12, 24, 25, 30, 60 frames per second...
Work up to 4K size
Add as many layers as you need
Switch to left-handed interface
Clear the canvas, copy-paste and have your color palette at your fingertips with the floating menu
• Gestures
Display the floating menu with a long touch with two fingers
Flip your animation with three fingers
Play and Pause your animation with four fingers
Frame your drawing with four fingers to transform it
Slice your sheets with your finger to split them
Tap-tap drag to select and move your drawings around, even through layers
• Tools
Callipeg has a complete brush set including pencil, pencil HB, charcoal, china marker, flat brush, Indian ink, soft pencil,...
And you can create yours with a fully manageable brush settings panel (from smoothing to tip customization and texture)
Choose color with the color wheel, the sliders or create your own palettes for your projects. Enjoy also the color history to never lose a color again
Color your drawings using the fill tool. You can adjust the range by dragging the slider
Set the color and opacity of onion skin. Display up to 8 frames before and after
Move your drawings within the onion skin using the Out of Pegs feature
Select and transform your drawings with the selection tool
• Layer types
Callipeg offers different types of layers that allow you to work with multiple contents:
Drawing layer, where you can add sheets, import pictures to your sheets, set their timing, add inbetweens
Video layer, where you can import video clips, adjust their playing speed and break them into sheets (rasterize)
Transformation layer, where you can create keyframes, nest your drawing layers and animate your drawings easily with our curve system
Audio layer, where you can import soundtracks, record yourself, adjust the volume, create fade-in/out
Group layer, where you can organize your layers by group, even subgroup and keep your layer stack nice and tidy
• Customization
Add colors to your layers and manage them using the color library system
Import reference images, as many as you want
Place the side bar on the right or on the left
Invert the canvas to check the proportion of your drawing
• Import/Export
Export your animations to:
.mp4 / .hevc / .gif / .png (including your layers structure if you need it) / .tga / .psd / .peg
Stay flexible with json, xdts and oca formats allowing you to move your work to another program
Import json and xdts files to restore your timing and layer structure
At the end of the 7-days trial period, you will have to choose between 3 plans to continue using the app.
For monthly and yearly subscriptions, the purchase will be applied to your iTunes account on confirmation. Subscriptions will automatically renew unless cancelled within 24-hours before the end of the current period. You can cancel anytime with your iTunes or Apple ID account settings. Everytime I try fixing the frames using my timeline, the app inevitably crashes and it keeps reducing the functions of what I can do with the frames
I cant use my apple pen on it

There is no tutorial to watch . How will we understand how to use this tool
It lacks a lot many features but have all the basic tools.
Although, unlike 3d software, 2d animation software doesn’t require a lot many features but it does need some of the crucial feature like blending modes, folder, color banner for different layers, way to install 3rd party brushes, gradient tool, a 2d camera, cliiping mask over other layers. I took a monthly subscription to check this software and used it for my current ongoing project for a client and it's great, I love it, but now and then It truly disappoints me and I feel like I could have just gone for clip studio paint ex, as it was my all time tool for animation on iPad. I was finishing a scene and I though to light the character with gradient using color dodge by clipping it to the below layer and guess what, not a single one step can be done inside the software, no gradient, no blending mode and no clippingmask. Also I found that size of a shot file is very big compared to other animation software, this takes up a lot of space on my iPad. I know you guys are working hard on this app but pls try to release some of the features. I love this app, very smooth, very creative, thanks
Audio not showing up, crashes when trying to play.
When I try to add audio, the waveform doesn’t show up, and if there is an audio layer in my layer, when I try playing back the animation, the app crashes. This happens to that file whenever I try playing it, and also when I try to delete the audio layer. This has been happening to a friend of mine as well, please fix it as soon as possible because this is the one animation software that I’m confident with and is using for a project.
Ok I changed my review
So previously I had given it a one star because it couldn’t export my 7 second animation due to memory overflow issues. I still think it’s an issue but the devs got back to me saying my files could be of a higher resolution. I wish the app handled memory better. Like I am okay with my exports being slower but memory overflow shouldn’t make it crash. Rather make it so that the app processes it in chunks that devices can handle. This app has so much potential with the intuitive UI. I think if they can improve stability, this ones a no brainer. Also, i’d really like to see vector layers and brushes so that one can export in resolution’s like 4k if needed. If they have both bitmap and natural feeling vector brushes I i’d be sold. I can see it being a passion project by the devs with all the thought put in behind it and am hoping for it to get better with time.
Way too expensive
This app should have cost $10 for lifetime in my honest opinion. It’s too expensive for what it’s offering. There are many free apps which works great without any hiccups. I think devs should reconsider about the price.
