Canopy - Parental Control App

We love Canopy for our device filter. It filters everything it’s supposed to and I love the capability to filter even swim suit/soft core pornography. We’ve only ever had a couple issues where it was glitchy and restarting the device worked well. Definitely recommend to protect young children or for individuals combating addiction.

Downloaded the free trial version and it won’t let me add Facebook to my list of allowed apps. It’s saying the app is not on my phone, which is absurd because it is. What’s going on?

First, world’s worst customer service-do not open until noon Central and do not honor the phone hours I experienced endless browser blocking loops; on the phone it ended up blocking even my ability to use weather apps. I feel ripped off.

I have been using this app for a year now, and it has effectively helped me stay off social medias and allowed me to reorganize my allocated time. I’m very thankful for this app and the control it placed over my phone. It works wonderfully well!

We have been using Canopy for a little over a year. It does a great job screening what is safe to watch and open. I will say they could work on the processing times though. It definitely slows down the phone. Besides that, I would recommend this to friends and family!

I think the app works extremely well keeping content off the screen. The only thing that has been a struggle is I can’t get certain apps to work unless I turn it off. Something as simple as the McDonalds app won’t let me order unless it’s off, which in my defeats some of the purpose of not being able to delete the system from your device. Other than that, it works really well and I would get this for my family.

I really like the app. And in the past it has worked very well. But for the past few months it has started breaking safari. If I type something into the url bar and hit enter, safari hangs for minutes and then eventually I get an error saying there’s no connection to the server. It doesn’t happen every time. But probably 60% of my searches end up this way. Pretty frustrating.

When it works, it works, but it’s buggy, limited internet use, even when “allowed” in settings, and slows internet speed down. However, it does do a good job filtering/monitoring. I like that it runs not just on browsers but all apps.

I’ve enjoyed using the app and it works for the most part. Canopy blocks TONS of porn sites so that is good. It will occasionally block other sites too. Some of them being sites that I have no idea why it was blocked. The good news is, with a quick request to whoever controls the app, it takes one click of the mouse to allow either that specific page, or the whole site. It also blocks some apps from downloading and or using it. Again, if you are the admin, you can easily turn the protection off, finish your business, then turn it back on. That’s not so convenient for other users as they will have to wait for the admin to approve their request. One other thing that could be improved. While the app is good for blocking sites, it sometimes lets images through if you are searching for images on search engines. It blocks videos easily enough, but not some animated gifs. Overall I highly recommend the app and would do it all over again if I had to. While the glitches are annoying, the protection is worth it. Part 2 I feel like if didn’t cover enough of the positive aspects of Canopy in my first review. I want to mention a few things. Canopy is VERY versatile. You can block specific web sites, type of web sites specific apps, and even put time limits on individual devices. There are even categories you can monitor. Audio, downloads, email, games, social media, and more. There is also a way to prevent canopy from being removed on whichever device the admin chooses. This really is a very versatile and functional app. Again, I highly recommend it.
