Description

CNET, the #1 source for tech news and reviews, puts the biggest stories of the day and expert advice on the products you need to own, right in the palm of your hand.

Everything in the new CNET app (designed for both iPhone and iPad) is focused on the areas that you -- as a tech fan -- care the most about: staying up-to-date with the news and making informed product purchases.

STAY UP-TO-DATE WITH TECH NEWS:
- FEATURED STORIES: Don’t have much time but need to stay in the know? CNET combines editorial picks with popular and trending news to feature the most important stories in the tech world.
- LATEST STORIES: Never miss a beat with our broad coverage. Nearly 100 new items published daily! Topics include:
- Technology industry and companies (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Uber, and more)
- Key technology categories such as mobile, computers, internet, and security
- Related topics such as culture, science, and entertainment (yes, CNET does talk about Star Trek occasionally)
- STUNNING GALLERIES: Easily view CNET’s beautiful photography within galleries on a single page.
- BREAKING NEWS ALERTS: Get timely notifications on CNET’s exclusive scoops and in-depth features.

MAKE INFORMED PRODUCT PURCHASE DECISIONS:
- HUGE PRODUCT BREADTH: Whatever type of product you’re interested in (phones, headphones, smart home devices, and more), CNET helps you find the best, at the best price. The independent reviews team spends countless hours putting everything through the ringer so you don’t have to! If it has an “on” button, odds are CNET reviews it.
- FIND THE BEST: Want the best wireless headphones, but don’t have time to wade through every single product review? That’s understandable -- CNET has written literally thousands of them. With that in mind, CNET’s made recommendations for the best of the best just a quick tap away.
- SEARCH ANY PRODUCT: If the best lists don’t have it, CNET’s search definitely does. It’s anchored by the largest tech product review catalog in the world. If that’s not enough, how about lightning-fast autosuggestions powered by natural language processing (NLP), artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Fancy tech words FTW! OMGLOLBBQ!
- IMMERSIVE VIDEO: Quickly learn about a product with CNET’s premium video reviews, which accompany nearly all of CNET’s reviews (in case you forgot by now, there are *thousands* of these).
- IN-DEPTH REVIEWS: Need to know more than the highlights? No problem. CNET’s high-quality reviews are done with hours of research and testing, and our reviews provide you with all that data and analysis, along with clear recommendations with our signature “Good, Bad, and Bottom Line” and rating summary. CNET saves you time and money by helping you find the right product quickly.
- FAST-TRACK PURCHASE: You’ve read the review, compared it against a few others, and you’re ready to buy - nice. You’re a tap away from buying it, and at the best price.

AD Revenue vs journalism vs reader base

Shameless 7874 on

This publication needs to take a serious look at its priorities with its web based articles on the Google news feed. Which is more important, the massive revenue generated by the overwhelming ads that are causing the page to glitch and become unreadable to complete the article or, actually reaching its reader base with digestible journalism? Has CNET forgotten about its roots in journalism in favor of ad revenue?

Weird glitch

bunnyrub on

Love the content, but the headline/featured stories at the top have remained unchanged for three months now, and counting. Reinstalled, etc., but nothing can fix it.

Top stories have not refreshed in months

GMoneyE on

Quickly becoming unusable. Last top stories are from late February.

The video news reels at the top of the screen doesn’t update to show new footage as it has in the past. I’ve had the same videos at the apps’ heading for months. I thought it may be a glitch, so I deleted the app, downloaded the app again with the same results. I have an iPhone 13, which isn’t very old. What gives?

Great

CNET hasn't updated their top articles in 4 months......

Lvalenz on

I used to love reading CNET top articles daily but the articles haven't been updated since February 2024. So I'd give .50 of 1 star rating if I could.

Keeps getting worse…

Just Me - Whoever that is on

I think CNET started dieing when it started venturing into politics and when their great talent started to progressively leave. Every update makes this app worse and worse. Now every time I try to open it, it’s asks me to update to the new version. Do they test the app updates before releasing? It’s ironic they have such a poor “tech” app when nearly their entire platform (reason for being) is based on reviewing technology I’m also fed up with the constant political articles. I use to go to this to escape politics… but it smacks me in the face nearly every time I look at. Very disappointing!!! I just have to erase the app and get out of the habit of looking at it…

Falling into disrepair

ScamBoss on

I’m a longtime CNET reader, but have been very disappointed with the declining quality of this app. Starting February stories have been getting stuck at the banner section up top, and the log in feature to save topics and preferences hasn’t worked. Reported this as feedback in the app, and not even a token response. Not sure what’s going on behind the scenes at CNET, but it’s starting to feel like they are in a downward spiral and unable to maintain their site and app effectively. Hope it’s just a bad coincidence, but if not I’ll be looking for a new source of tech news in the near future.

Fallen From Grace

CNET used to be my go to app for all things tech. They had reliable, high quality articles, an app the was updated regularly, and writers that were experienced and trusted. That is no longer the case. Since CNET was sold in 2020, this app has gone downhill. The article feed is full of bloat and random articles, very rarely related to tech. Many are reposts of old articles that have been "updated with new information", but have really only had a tiny change so they can repost it, and are dated by the time of posting. Take Apple's latest announcement. In the past there were articles posted with constant updates as the event occurred, a review article of the products within a day or two, and a full hands on article shortly after they were fully released in store. Now, they had one tiny article with minimal details, and nothing else. And to even find that you had to scroll through miles of junk and chaff. In addition, I can't tell you the last time they actually fixed their app. At the top of the app there is a top news area that has a larger photo and you can scroll through. That has been broken and stuck on the same 10 articles since February 29th, 2024. CNET used to be one of the best apps on the App Store, and one of the best tech news sites around. That is no longer the case. It is with deep regret that I can no longer recommend this app and highly recommend you look elsewhere until they update their system, fix their app, stop using AI to help them write so many of their articles (they stopped completely using AI to write them in 2023, but they still use it to accelerate their article writing) which seems to have led them to blast the internet with as many articles as possible, and go back to their roots as a premier source of tech news.

App is meh… CNET is on its way out…

CancunViking on

Ever since CNET became part of CBS Interactive, its just felt like a push in one direction… and even unnecessarily political. I want to read, watch, listen, and learn about tech. That’s it. Then with the Red Ventures acquisition, it’s even more of the same. All the really good people left and for good reason, and we’re left with the controlled empty muppets. Everything else on the site feels like one big advertisement for “hey go here for a new credit card!” Or “try this new code for money off new tech!” Sad to see.
