Cribbage With Grandpas

Im just starting to learn cribbage and downloaded a bunch of the free cribbage games on the App Store before finding this. What they all had in common was throwing ads in your face. In some of the apps you can pay to remove the ads, but if you’re in the business of selling ads I don’t really trust that you’re going to stop tracking me and selling my data just because I paid to remove them. This game is different though. It was clearly made by a small team, made with care, and has loads of character. I can’t speak to how good the AI is as I’m still learning, but as an experience the game is a lot of fun. Well worth the small asking price.

All very good, EXCEPT for when you are challenged for another game ‘Double or Quits’ when you win, you only get 1 point not 2.

Simultaneous relaxing and frustrating - I love cribbage. Everything here is perfect, my favourite and only cribbage app.

I think I’ve had this game for maybe 3 or 4 years, I can’t quite remember. It’s really been my ultimate comfort through everything. I struggled a lot at sixth form, and eventually dropped out for mental health reasons, but whenever I was anxious or lonely or down, I would always have grandpa “Oswald” to play cribbage with. His compliments and chatter would make me smile even on my hardest days. More recently, however, I lost my own grandpa. I’ve never lost a family member before and the grief has really hit me hard, but being able to sit down and play a game or cribbage with “grandpa” has really made things a little bit easier, and made me feel like he’s still with me. Thank you for making a game that been my comfort through some very hard times.

My grandad taught me to play crib & it’s lovely to be able to play with him again. For me I would love if you could personalise the grandpa with a photo and maybe even set the way he scores (my grandad always used to count all the 15s first for example) but never the less I’m really enjoying this app.

Enjoy playing this game, simple but clean graphics, no ads, no in-app purchases etc. I am getting a bit suspicious that as you increase the difficulty grandpa just gets better cards. Never seen so many 10+ hands in cribbage before.

Great app!

The game begins by creating and naming your grampa, once complete, you select him from the ingame contacts. You can make a several gramps of various aptitude’s and select character traits. There’s also a tutorial that I didn’t use so cannot comment. During play you have to work out your score each time which is a nice touch but there should be an option for the score to be worked out for you. If you accidentally press the continue button you score is taken as 0 and that spoils the game for me. The music grates a bit during play but it can be turned off. The grandpa chat bubbles gets repetitive very quickly. Although there is an option to reduce his input, more variation on what he says would have been better in a paid game. There are better free games out there but it’s a little bit of fun if you like playing crib.

This is the first review I have ever written. Such a shame that this game is impossible to win because the computer just gives itself the best cards. Totally unrealistic.

I downloaded this game thinking I’d learn how to play cribbage. Little did I know I was getting cute grandpas with personalities, fun ways to play and a joy in the game I don’t think I ever would have found in a normal cribbage app. I honestly think is one of my favourite apps in the last year, which is saying something for an app about cards!
