Data Jar is a data store designed to be used with Shortcuts. The data store lets you persist key-value pairs.
If you have used dictionaries and lists in Shortcuts, then you’ll find that the data format used by Data Jar is very similar.
- Extensive support for Shortcuts, enabling you to read and update data directly from Shortcuts.
- Store text, numbers, booleans, lists, dictionaries and even files.
- Files are stored in iCloud Drive and can be accessed from the Files app.
- Support for multiple windows and drag and drop on the iPad.

Simple and simply great
Great app which makes using Apple Shortcuts much better for persisting data than e.g. storing into a file (unless you really want to store a file - btw. Data Jar can do that too).
Also great with automations. E.g. there is currently no way in Shortcuts to get CarPlay status, but with automations I store it simply into CarPlay.status (and retrieve the same way) in one command.
I noticed sync functionality only recently how smoothly it works.
As a developer I am only wondering how well the application scales for storing e.g. large lists.
promising, but have issues
I just started to use this app and it looks really promising, but I can’t set a value. When I’m trying to do this instead of choosing a magic variable I can only choose between files on my ipad. The options are set to Text (btw why there’s no list or dictionary option, just Text or Number), so everything should be right. I even tried to edit existing Shortcut - Add App to Wishlist, when I’m removing a magic variable from the command Set value and trying to add it back, I’m also getting file list instead. Please help.
