The app does nothing.
Everyone needs to chill out with their dramatic reviews of this app. This app does ONE thing which is to facilitate the software update of the firmware. It takes time. It took me overnight for the app to reflect that the kettle updated. No big deal because the kettle had the same functionality before the update as after the update. If this app was needed for remote functioning of the kettle, and that wasn’t working right away, sure that would be frustrating, but that’s not the case. You use and program the kettle only on the kettle. So my advice to everyone is just tell the app to update the kettle and walk away. It’ll update eventually and doesn’t need the update right away for you to have full functionality of the kettle.
This one star is for the app experience NOT the kettle or the kettle UI and digital kettle experience. I assume on the first go the app did what it should have? Connected kettle to WiFi, updated the kettle, etc. When you go back into the app, it shows that the kettle needs to be updated, except the button UI to update does not work. It would be great if besides updating the kettle (hence the name of the app) that the app actually functioned (timer, temp, schedule, etc!) So many app devs looking for work, you could probably get this developed at a reasonable cost. C’mon Fellow, make this great product excellent!!
My app downloaded and mentioned the kettle was updating. It got stuck and there is no sign of what part of the process it is in. By luck, I was walking by the Kettle the next morning after setting up the WiFi on the kettle, and it was updating - which I knew because the circle screen on the Kettles base had a progress bar for the update. My phone was not near the kettle when it was updating. If you want to know if your kettle is updated, my app shows a check mark and says “Up To Date” under the Kettles name in app. Three stars for the app because it did its job, however it is true that it should function better.
I purchased this Smart Kettle so that I could schedule it to start heating my water before I get out of bed. Well so far it’s not smart enough to update and has been stuck with “updating soon” for a week now. I guess I’ll be returning this $255 Not Smart Kettle back to Amazon! It’s a beautiful kettle, just not Smart….🧐
This is not a pro but rather a (pro)blem only! Just purchased and connected and it literally does nothing. Says the firmware needs to be updated but doesn’t do it. Can’t turn on the pot remotely. What’s the point of the WiFi connection if it doesn’t work. Wish I would have seen these reviews before purchasing. The upcharge for this portion should be refunded. So disappointing. First world problems.
The app says “updating”, then switches to “updating soon”. That’s it. There’s no feedback on the kettle or in the app. No way to see current version or start, pause, end an update. But I guess “soon” is a relative term, so I’ll wait another week.
It just says “update available” and won’t update the kettle. I’ve tried power cycling the kettle and my phone multiple times and nothing changes. This needs some UX research and improvements.
Garbage and waste of time.
Tea and kettles have been around for thousands of years… only in the last 10 or so years have we needed one with firmware that requires updating. When the Stagg Pro was introduced, they had a marketing website talking about remote control. That’s gone out the window… can we just rewind to a nice looking kettle with a simple control for temperature and scheduling? Paying for WiFi enabled firmware updates is like having a water purifier hooked up to your toilet… which is where this app belongs. It works how it’s supposed to, but it’s not what was billed to customers.
