Epicurious Reviews

Great app but TERRIBLE customer service

JOMILI73 on

United Kingdom

I was a print subscriber to Bon Appetite and Gourmet for many years and eventually went Epicurious. I love the app. Everything about it. Saved recipe box, suggestions, clustering of ideas, etc. however, when I had a subscription issue and was not able to access my account, I ran into nothing but brick walls and being ignored. I was passed around from the App Store to the app service team to the parent company, Conde Nast. The UK CONDÉ nast team said it wasn’t their responsibility and told me to look it up on line. Shame on all of you. I eventually solved my problem a year. Later, and after two rounds of being re-subscribed despite no access. I’ll still use the app but truly the most painful online service issue I have ever come across.

Cannot Get Recipe Notes

Sharkbair on

United Kingdom

Great app for recipes but I cannot get the recipe notes from other users. These are extremely helpful. They appear when the app sends me recipes but not in the app itself.

Horrible login experience

grocket666 on

Which tonight is not working at all. On an app one has to guess which email address one used wait ages for the page to load, then to leave to get a link which eventually arrives and then, well, I don’t remember, and now it throws an error and never gets back to the app. Search not working for free access. Had to abandon cooking. Grrr

Exceptional Recipes, Glitchy App

NewbyNewbs2021 on

Although I gladly pay for a subscription due to the high-quality, research based content and appreciate all of BA, Gourmet and Epi’s under one roof, the app is immensely error prone, often shuts down without warning, requires re-logins or fails to open entirely. After the big reveal and revamp last year, things still don’t seem to be much better. I still prefer the old interface, which ran much more smoothly. Also would appreciate more control over the recipe box - allowing us to customize its organization. I don’t enjoy writing bad reviews, but have been patient as a paying subscriber wishing for much needed improvements to the app which have yet to manifest. Please create and app for your exceptional recipes! Will always love Epi, just wish the app lived up to the quality of the recipes.

Nice visually but buggy and under developed

Omonk_ on

It looks nice and some of the recipes are nice however I’ve experienced it repeatedly crashing when looking at a recipe mid cooking so I just took a screenshot instead. The recipes are good but discovery is poor, multi combination searches which you’d expect to reveal results shows nothing 🤷‍♀️ Cancelled my subscription

Frustratingly Glitchy

Christina Fearnley on

United Kingdom

I wanted to love this app - I subscribe to Bon Appetit but wanted to have a way to easily access recipes without thumbing through old copies or searching their website. At a glance, the app is nicely laid out - with suggestions on the home page and you can tap to save a recipe. Unfortunately, this is where it ends. The app constantly throws me out of the recipe and returns me to my ‘saved’ page. When you’re cooking, this is infuriating - it happens over and over. I’ve returned to looking up via the Epicurious or BA website as at least that will stay open! Unfortunately, this renders the app unusable, in my opinion. Other things that aren’t great (but aren’t as annoying) - I struggle to search for specific terms (i.e. when I have a specific recipe in mind) - I went mad searching for a Rick Martinez carnitas recipe for ages with no luck. This may have gotten better since I first downloaded the app. You can search your saved recipes but there isn’t a filter option other than by date saved or highest rated so good luck if you’re a serial recipe saver who then wants some inspiration! Overall - if they could fix the glitch with it kicking you out of recipes, I’d happily use. Otherwise, I’m afraid I can’t be bothered to faff with it anymore.

Ripoff

I have been a loyal epicurean virtually since the beginning of this app. Have just updated and they now want £4.99 for a subscription. A real disappointment and will now delete app and use google for inspiration as the fee is extortionate for the occasional access.

Nothing is free anymore :-(

AMN1968 on

Downloaded new version of this app and can no longer access most of my saved recipes unless I subscribe for $4.99 per month. No thanks, I don’t use your app nearly enough to justify that.

Lost personal recipes

Foppyb on

I’ve used Epicurious for a few years. Mostly to upload and store my own recipes from friends and family. I just went in to get organised for Christmas and see it’s now a subscription service. No issues with that BUT I can’t access “MY OWN” recipes I created and added.
