Great app Needs a few more songs And could be updated more often
I’m a beginner with the goal of being able to confidently play piano with both hands and read sheet music. Overall the app is quite good for my goals but has room for improvement, especially given the price. Likes -Good song variety, which is important for beginners. I’ve given up on piano in the past due to boring beginner songs. Here you can start with video game soundtracks/film soundtracks/pop songs which is a great way to motivate you to practice. -Allows you to isolate right and left hands to easily learn them separately before playing with both hands. -Each song has a video of someone else playing it so you can see they’re finger and hand positions to help you learn quickly. -Ability to playback songs at 50% or 75% speed. -Easily loop sections that you want to practice. -“Wait mode” listens to you play, and advances the “playhead” only if you play the correct notes. A nice way of learning the notes by ear/testing your ability to read the notation. Dislikes -No metronome! What a glaring oversight. It’s great to practice counting in your head but a built-in metronome would be invaluable, especially when learning to read new rhythms. -The function for looping sections behaves in an annoying way. If you loop a large section and get halfway through and make a mistake, if you pause and try to “rewind” a bar or two, once you hit okay it automatically jumps you back to the start. -Unclear pricing structure. Flow Key offers two types of subscriptions, “basic song access”(which they say unlocks classical and royalty-free songs) , and “full song access” (which they say unlocks full library of songs, including licensed songs) but they do not have a clear description or list of which songs you get with either option which forces you to pay for each option to see what the differences are. Conclusion: A good way to start playing piano without taking lessons, but has room for improvement.
Flowkey is not a bad way to learn piano but under half of the songs are only available through premium
I wavered on purchasing this for the last month and finally decided to go for it. 179.00 is very expensive but I thought it was a good app. 1. I purchased it and it billed me for the entire year and not monthly like it leads you to believe. 2. I go into the app and apparently this is not the highest level even though it’s called “premium”. To get full access to the songs I need to pay another 90 bucks for “full access”. 3. I figure that sucks but what can I do so I start looking at songs and pretty much everything popular that id like to learn is still locked. I def would like a refund. I feel so scammed.
But I deleted it after a day because I can’t afford a subscription. April 4, 2024. Don’t even try to subscribe me.
It’s no long available in the song selection. Please bring it back.
I have a one year subscription. It helped me a lot in learning at my own pace. However, there are some errs that I really hope the app developer can solve. 1. The app can’t hear my electric piano well when I play multiple notes on wait mode. I have to hit it several times to move pass it. 2. The Bluetooth on my electric piano is connected with my iPad but unable to connect to the app. It’s really frustrating hopefully there some solutions to this
Flowkey has been very helpful and unlike other piano tools has helpful features such as hand selection and wait mode making it very useful to learn music.
This is the first review I’ve ever written for an app, but flowkey deserves it. At the time I’m writing this, I’ve been teaching myself the piano on flowkey and a few other ways for just under a year now. Before I get into some critiques, I want to say that this app is a godsend. Flowkey is helped me become comfortable and confident when it comes to playing the piano, it makes learning songs much easier especially with its wait mode. Being able to practice three measures with my right, then left hand, then together has helped me accelerate my learning to speed that I didn’t even know it was possible. I have fallen in love with the piano, and most of it stems from me downloading and taking a chance on this app. thank you developers of flowkey you’ve helped me find a hobby that I truly love! I could give y’all 4.5 stars but there are some things that would be really nice to change. 1) let users disable the feature that shows how the song is played above the written music. i’ve developed a really bad habit of following along with the person playing the highlighted notes, above the written notes. my site reading hasn’t improved substantially. Partly because of this, partly because it’s my own fault to begin with. However, I feel like learning the notes would’ve came to me a lot faster if I could’ve disabled that at one point. 2) let me zoom in on the written notes on the iPad version of flowkey. On my phone I can on my iPad I can’t I’d really like to be able to zoom in on the written notes or the highlighted notes being played at some points. 3) Allow users to listen to one specific hand being played at full speed, rather than the 50 and 75% that’s only allowed on iPad. Kind of annoying to have to pull up my phone to listen to one hand being played at full speed. 4) more courses!!! flowkey has me addicted to learning songs. Practice for a half hour to an hour daily however, I really enjoyed the courses especially when I just started learning. I feel like if there is more courses, I could refine my skills even more and even faster. Thanks again for this amazing app. The critiques above are not game changers and flowkey is still 100% worth anyone’s time especially if they’re just starting. I’m looking forward to seeing how the developers continue to improve this app!!!
