Plan. File. Fly. Log.
Garmin Pilot is the most comprehensive suite of tools for the iPad designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. Flight planning, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources and navigation capabilities; it’s all included. The app’s intuitive interface mirrors those on the newest Garmin touchscreen avionics so you can go seamlessly from preflight to inflight.
Plan
Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over Garmin’s interactive maps that support track-up navigation, VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route.
File
With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan and interactively edit it on the map. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, amend or close the flight plan via Leidos Flight Service or DUATS.
Fly
Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map. Pilots can also navigate with Garmin’s patented panel, a GPS-driven instrument pack with a graphical HSI directional display and indicators for groundspeed, altitude and vertical speed. After takeoff, pilots can continue to view real-time weather in the U.S. and traffic information by wirelessly connecting to Garmin’s GDL 50 series portable ADS-B Receiver (sold separately).
Log
Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports.

Garmin Pilot Reviews

Perfect if you fly Garmin avionics

PPLlist on

Switzerland

In case your Cockpit has fligtstream, Garmin Pilot is the Perfect Interface. The minor disadvantage vs the one other app becomes irrelevant. The major down side I would say is that the filing is slow and only certain aircrafts are in the performance catalog. The in app professional filing function is US only. Compared with some other apps that offer trans Atlantic, and Europe as well as a NCC or AOC compliant briefing and filing. Other then that the usability, intuitiveness, graphics, adjustability of airspaces etc is perfect. I run also the other app, but finally only use Garmin pilot to fly with.

great but ...

I love this app. Intuitive to use, well developed interface. IFR flight planning easy to do. While perfectly in the US, in Switzerland it is an issue with the charts. The FliteCharts contain IFR charts from Swiss Airports published by AIP. Great! But no VAC charts are available for Switzerland although advertised so. I have a Jeppesen Subscription, but still AIP VAC and ICAO Charts for Switzerland are appreciated.

Maybe very good but ...

I wanted to test this application, since I wihs to decide which navigation app is the best one for my needs (newly licensed hobby pilot, in Switzerland). I downloaded it and wished to use the 30 day trial period of course together with the appropriate charts. After a few E-Mails with the support the conclusion was: "Da die VFR Karten nur als Erweiterung einer bestehenden Subscription gekauft werden können, da dort die Mintestlaufzeit ein Jahr ist, ist dies mit der Demoversion tatsächlich nicht möglich". That means, I can have a demo version but without the VFR Charts, that is absolutely no use for a test (I would have to pay 200 CHF for a subscription). At the end I decided for Air Navigation Pro and / or Jeppesen VFR Mobile Flight Deck

V24.11.0 - AWFUL Wx Imagery - Still!

C172Pilot on

United States

The weather imagery needs a major overhaul. With all the imagery available from the national weather service, the storm prediction center and the aviation weather center they give you just a small amount to make no decision whatsoever. They also include other countries that aren’t needed when flying in the US. The pilot should only have or need the countries that they are resident in and able to download the other countries if needed. The competition has much better imagery, and I use it instead of Garmin pilots.

Great upgrade

The latest update works so great on iPad, it’s a breeze to file an IFR flight plan, get your flight briefings. Way to go Garmin!

App lies about database download status

sladehawke on

United States

This app has an insidious error related to database concierge. It will tell you that all downloads are downloaded and ready for install, even though they are weeks out of date. You MUST manually refresh the downloads screen to know whether there are additional downloads for your panel.

Tutorials

If there are tutorials, it is not yet clear where they are. This would be a good user feature to offer. E.g. an intro course to Garmin Pilot.
