Description

The new way to practice jazz!
Genius Jamtracks, the play-along app for jazz musicians that thinks and plays like an actual trio.
With an impressively realistic sound and feel, it helps you build your repertoire, your jazz vocabulary and master polyrhythms.
Genius Jamtracks introduces "New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets by Women Composers" - a monumental publication and effort led by Terri Lyne Carrington, founder and artistic director of Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.

“Genius Jamtracks is easily the best play along app out there! Particularly the piano voicings are more logical and realistic than other play-along apps. The bass and drums are not just a simple repetitive pattern, but actually use some jazz language. And it’s nice that you can make the band busy in unpredictable ways. As much like playing with a real group as you can get from an algorithm. Highly recommended!“
~ Paul Bollenback
“It’s like a jazz musician wrote it. The drums and piano are just like how a jazz drummer and pianist would play. Couldn’t be an easy task to create that!”
~ Steve Beskrone

- Why it sounds great:
It’s all in the dynamics, note durations, space and feel.
The Genius Jamtracks trio pays close attention to each of these elements to make the practice experience as close to the real thing as possible.
- A real swing feel!
Forget the robotic triplets of other play-alongs.
When changing the tempo, the app doesn’t simply play faster or slower, the swing feel changes as well. The app learned how to swing by internalising jazz vocabulary and playing based on real transcriptions from the masters.
- Actual voice leading!
No matter what your settings are, just press play and you’ll always have the same attention to voice leading from the pianist and the same effort in creating beautiful lines from the bassist to accompany you.

- Create your own songs with Genius Jamtracks using an easy and intuitive interface.
- Edit the charts for your favourite jazz standards however you like.
- Option to create your own playlists of songs.
- Custom fonts make for beautiful, easy to read chord charts.

- Rhythm Department:
Start with simple comping and work your way up to mastering superhuman polyrhythms!
Focus on a specific grouping, ratio, polyrhythm or rhythmic displacement. Ask the trio – or an individual instrument – to include only what you’ve requested when they introduce polyrhythmic phrasing.
As you won’t know when or how it will be used though, this feature also helps sharpen your reflexes as well as mastering that rhythm!
- Harmonic Level Selector:
Start with triads and work your way up to advanced substitutions and reharmonisation of the song.
- Voicing Selector:
Select your preferred voicing type directly from the new selector.

- Link Button:
When a song is opened, the app automatically selects the best voicings based on the song style. If the link is off, your chosen voicing type will be saved as the default.
- Time Placement
Fancy a ballad, or a straight-ahead swing? Give the trio a more powerful or loose feel.

Genius Jamtracks Reviews

Looping

Please write the jam tracks so we can loop whatever bar or bars we wish to, just like irealpro.

Overrated !

I purchased this app after viewing some pretty compelling YouTube vids but although it functions well enough as a play along, it fails in many areas. Pick-up bars, intros, codas, and the like, are not catered for, which leaves the app incomplete and, for me, worse than useless for its intended purpose. I find it strange that musicians have recommended this app without mentioning this glaring omission. So far it has turned out to be money poorly spent, although I did contact the team in July regarding this issue and was informed that it would be sorted. So far no update has been forthcoming. I will stick with iReal Pro which has all of these features albeit without the realistic rhythm section.

Excellent app

Very useful jam/practice partner and well worth the money - would be all the better with more styles and an export option, either midi or paste, for linking with other apps.

Game changer

Very clever application which follows the dynamics of a band situation. Very good. This will definitely improve my playing.

Brilliant!

This is a really well put together app. Easy and fun to use, pleasing to look at and veeeerrry beneficial. I'm not even much of a jazzer! I'm a low intermediate, self-teaching piano learner, with a preference for classic rock (for want of a better term) but open to all sorts of music, and I get loads of use out of this little gem. Congrats to creator! PS Any chance of some rock/pop-orientated material, further down the line..? 🤓

At last!

Saw this on Dan Bakers YouTube channel and bought it immediately. Clever app that adds variation to jazz backing tracks making it almost like the real thing - great for us practising at improv. Similar apps are stuck in one mode and become monotonous after a few choruses. Not this. Obviously Band in a Box leads the way on desktop but this is a huge leap in the right direction on iOS. Deserves more recognition and I look forward to seeing how it develops. Well done to the dev.

Because I can’t give zero stars

Your charts are wrong. And the rhythm section swings like an amateur Lawrence Welk band. The only people who play jazz like that anymore are baby boomers and nerds.

Feature request

This app is awesome . Here is my feature request: let me set it to cue the bar at any interval. For example I start out cuing every bar when I’m first learning to never lose my place. Then I cue every other bar to force myself to remember two, then every fourth bar etc until I don’t have to cue any!

Crashes all the time when editing

Please fix this it could be brilliant. Nothing worse than unreliable software.

Fun app but is crashing

The idea behind this app is great and I’ve enjoyed playing with it but it now keeps crashing :(
