Blue screen freeze!

Useless App - now permanently frozen on the blue start-up screen. When first installed it mapped the 4 Devolo devices differently every time, and even then the functionality was very limited. Meanwhile, one of the four DEVOLO MAGIC 2 devices ALWAYS failed, so now left with 3 working and one sat next to a smart TV that we can’t use (kids bedroom) reminding us WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY DEVOLO TURNED OUT TO BE

An app without a purpose

Ok, so it allows you name an adapter (which is only of use within the App), and it allows you to identify an adapter by flashing the lights. Other than that it’s pretty useless - the “network topology” appears a logical topology and is useless, there’s no “update firmware” button (there’s a browse to firmware file buried in the advanced settings but that relies on you having the correct file), and it doesn’t even show the speed between adapters (again, you can find this buried in advanced settings but it’s not easy). There are a few other things you can tweak but I’m genuinely really disappointed by the lack of functionality. I’ll try the cockpit software but this app scores a lowly 2/5 for me as it simply does so little.

Taken hostage for restarting

Please remove the unnecessary delay when restarting the adapters that takes over the entire screen and won’t let me do anything for a minute and a half. When I have to restart more than one adapter at a time it’s getting in the way without any real benefit. This is bad UX.

Magic 2 lan adapters

Failed to install using the ios and iPadOS app, so installed them manually by resetting them, used Cockpit on the laptop to update the firmware on both adapters, now both apps are working.

Keeps crashing

I bought a new Magic 2 Mesh WiFi 6 whole home kit to replace the dLan 1200 Powerline network throughout the house. Which still works fine but isn’t as stable or fast on my newer devices. And I wanted to have a network that is “future proof” for a while at least. I used the app to set up the mesh. Followed the instructions perfectly. Set up went fine and then once the new mesh was running, now the app crashes and shuts down every time I try to tap on any of the adapters in Network Overview. So the app is essentially useless.

Terrible but no other option

It’s not great. But on iPhone no other option. The Cockpit software available on desktop is better. Why can’t a company like devolo learn from the likes of ASUS and design an app with intuitive UX - ? Seems mad. I bought devolo because of the good quality of the powerline engineering IN SPITE of the terrible app. But it’s already making me almost want to change my setup. also - less than basic parental controls don’t help.

Works like crap!

I have 4 devises showing in the app, it allows me to click on 2 of them so I can configure but not the other 2. I’m tapping them like crazy and nothing happens at all, it’s like it not picking up my touch input (the phone works fine) in the app. Reinstalling the app does nothing it just simply does not let me click on 2 of them so I can’t configure for crap but they all show in the overview. 👎👎👎

Awful

Really poorly designed app, all it did was link me to their most up-to-date hardware and expected me to buy that in order for my system to function, and show me the most basic information that was already useless in the handbook. Very frustrating.

Confusing, frustrating and broken

I can only surmise that Devolo may possibly be interested in the making of high quality wigs. The sheer volumes of hair violently yanked from one’s scalp while trying to operate its bewildering technology will undoubtedly be used in its waging war of alopecia. The writer of the Devolo manual has obviously taken most of their inspiration from the Times’ Cryptic Crossword as even the most basic of terms common in other manuals here is given a flourish of inconsistent jargon and needless interruptions that wouldn’t be out of place in film by Christopher Nolan. The computer based app works adequately, though still suffers from a miasma of vague and conflicting terminology. This iOS app meanwhile simply does not find anything it is supposed to, rendering it a waste of time for all parties- the manufacturer and the poor customers. Whoever allowed this dreck clearance for public operation clearly has never tried to actually use it. Appalling.
