Joule: Sous Vide by ChefSteps

The app itself is nice, but it has internet connection problems so frequently that it becomes unusable. Their infrastructure behind this app really needs some work.

The Joule app has problems connecting every time. It doesn’t work without the app. Get a sois vide that doesn’t rely on connecting to a smart phone. This one is going in the trash.

This app is so bad

This app is barely functional. It will throw a connection error just about every time you want to do something with the Joule device (set timer, set temp, stop cooking, etc.) Can take anywhere from 1-5 mins to reconnect to the device (plus closing and reopening the app multiple times). If you try to set the timer and it errors, the device will just turn off.

Half the time it connects on first try opening the app. Once the Sous Vide get started and I open the app again to check the progress, it connects exactly 0% of the time and I have to close out of the app and reopen. For a top of the line device this is a total pain and makes me dread having to use it.

The app always spends an eternity connecting to joule. This clearly is some bug since closing and reopening the app leads to fast reconnections. The app also has an eternal loading screen when trying to set autostart timers. Overall, a pretty bad user experience when it fails to perform basic tasks.

I’m over this thing. Heats up; gives me the notice that the temperature is right; I add food and tell it to start the timer, and suddenly it can’t find the joule and won’t work. Restart it, it tells me the temperature is right at 129, but then tells me it can’t connect. Then how does it know the temperature? Channeling my inner old man, but this reinforces that not everything needs an app; this is certainly not a convenience, but this model doesn’t work without onex

Slow, constant connection issues, and alarms don’t work anymore. Same issues with both of my 2 Joules. Already tried all the troubleshooting steps including completely removing and reinstalling the app. I’ve been using Joule forever and it used to be fantastic. If this is being abandoned to encourage us to buy the new device, it’s not working for me.

It’s time to update it says (often) so try to figure out where to find the update and meanwhile every page tries to sell you a subscription for $69 a year. There are many better sous vides out there. I’ve since bought anova and so much simpler to operate, very straightforward and if you dont have your phone handy you can do the A from the screen on the sous vide itself. Joule has since updated things w Breville, on Beta testing now, and it is supposed to be much improved. Also Joule has a very good customer service w prompt responses w live people. That is important to me

Used to love this app, but it’s gotten worse and worse: - horrible connectivity. Bluetooth or strong WiFi, doesn’t matter. Response times are slow and requests fail all the time (e.g., setting a timer, turning on auto start). Unpair, repair, factory reset - doesn’t matter - there’s a notice to update my firmware, but it says that it’s up to date in the settings. The learn more link for the firmware update is broken too If you’re going to remove support for the app that’s required to run the sous vide, that’s your business. Just stop pretending.
