Published by: ChefSteps

Description

Get access to the best sous vide recipes and control Joule, the world’s smallest, most powerful sous vide tool, with the Joule App. From raw to ready, the app coaches you through the whole process, so cooking sous vide is simple. Just pick what you want to cook, and we’ll walk you through the rest.
The Joule App includes groundbreaking features like Visual Doneness, precise temperature control from anywhere, and a robust collection of recipes and cooking guides created by the ChefSteps team. Joule and its app were built and designed from scratch to work together, and we’re just as dedicated to the quality of our products as we are to the food we make with them. You can read more about Joule and the Joule App in publications like CNET, Wired, Lifehacker, Food & Wine, and Network World.
HOW DOES THE JOULE APP WORK?
You tell us what you’re cooking, we tell you when it’s ready. Making a two-inch steak? Great. Just tap the Start button, and Joule will set a timer for perfect doneness. Get notified when your steak is ready—and we’ll also tell you how much longer it can stay in the water without overcooking.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE JOULE APP?
• Exclusive access to our cooking guides: The app comes with step-by-step guides for everything from perfect fried chicken, to succulent salmon, to the best steak you’ve ever had in your life, helping you unlock the power of sous vide. What’s even better? We’ll keep adding new guides (and updating old ones) all the time.
• Visual Doneness: Choose exactly how you want your food to look when it’s done, then press go, and Joule does the rest. No more filtering through online forums to get the information you need. Visual Doneness takes the guesswork out of sous vide.
• Step-by-step instructions, so you can learn as you go: Every cooking guide comes loaded with quick videos that’ll teach you new techniques and help you get the best results.
• Notifications that let you know when your water is hot and your food is done, no matter where you are. Not ready to eat? We’ll tell you how much longer your food can stay in without overcooking.
• Bluetooth and Wifi control, so you can cook from anywhere.
WHAT IS SOUS VIDE COOKING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Chefs have been cooking sous vide for decades to get perfect proteins and amazing new textures. But, it’s not fancy or complicated—Joule heats water to a very specific temperature, so you can cook food gently, with super-human precision. The water never gets hotter than you want the food to be, so it won’t overcook.

CAN I STILL USE THE JOULE APP IF I HAVE ANOTHER SOUS VIDE TOOL, LIKE NOMIKU, SANSAIRE, OR ANOVA?
Absolutely! You can still use our sous vide guides and Visual Doneness in the Joule App to figure out your favorite times and temperatures, then manually set your other tool and make amazing meals at home.

Horrible Product

Joule is stupid on

“Sorry, app is unauthorized to use Bluetooth Low Energy” The app is trash….never lets you just cook…

Barely functional ap

Atavachron on

The Joule sous vide hardware is excellent but the only way to use the device is with this hot garbage app. It takes forever to establish a WiFi connection to the device and inputting a temperature takes an interminable amount of time just to get going. Setting the timer gives an endless cycle of trying to reconnect with the unit.

TRASH

Don’t get it, won’t work with my new iPhone

Only Errors

wotsompb on

United States

This app is completely unusable. I can sometimes set a starting temp but any changes I try to make after that result in only error messages. I can turn it off via the app without an error and I can’t close the app and reopen it to check on cooking time because I get an error message. Works better on the android app so we have to use my husbands phone in order to use this thing at all

Bad app.

United States

This is one of worst apps I have used. It would not stay on my WiFi and it took repeated attempts to start and time the sous vide machine. I switched to the Breville app and it’s flawless.

Really bad connection between app and device

why1213141516171819 on

United States

I have had a Joule device and app for many years. Every time I turn it on its guess work whether it will connect properly or not. I’ll be standing right in front of the device so both internet and Bluetooth connections are available and it will spin forever and time out not being able to connect. After a couple of tries sometimes it will connect. Sometimes when it is to turn it off I’ll give up and simply pull the plug. But that inevitably causes problems the next time I start it. I’ve got lots of internet connected devices. Generally they will respond in under a second. Whoever wrote this app and created the device doesn’t know what they are doing. If I had to buy another one again I wouldn’t get this one.

Frustrating app for a solid appliance

VidalSee on

United States

The app inserts itself into your cooking workflow with the promise of greater control and automation. But ultimately it creates more work for you. My main issue is the ability to simply turn it off. Yes, I set it for 24 hours, but I would like to stop it at 23 when I’m in the kitchen. The app? Unresponsive. I usually have to hard restart my phone to get it to stop. Disappointed

My first one

Hanley44 on

United States

I didn’t see any reheating instructions. Where would I look for that feature? I live alone and often times cook for 2 or 3 persons so i have leftovers.

Avoid unless you want ruined food

I want my pork chops back on

United States

I just lost 2 beautiful pork chops because the app froze and stopped the cook at some unknown time. It’s so frustrating that I have a $200 paperweight because I can’t use it without connecting to this garbage app.

Poor

Mike Phace on

United States

This is literally, the most terrible app for a kitchen appliance ever made. I hate this app. It’s total garbage. Do you guys not have any app QA or just waiting for an acquisition??? Its a P.O.S!
