Be aware that Komoot is yet another service that wants to be social media and exposes all of your information to anyone looking unless you explicitly go in and turn everything off. I regret ever signing up for this service.

Frustrating

Bike Spain on

United States

This was suggested several times,so I down loaded the app while biking across Northern Spain. Used this app & Googles app. Found it frustrating & always searching for plans/ routes. Google was not the most accurate road travel or calculation on bike routes & actual time it would take. But way less frustrating than this app. I tried different days to use this and just delete it.

Finding hikes and planning is still cumbersome

bjrndl on

The community focus isn’t working out with the UI as it currently is. I don’t really care what others are hiking, I wanna find hikes to do myself. If that’s community backed, cool. If not, cool. I just want ease of use. The front page ad a community feed is obstructive IMO. I want the map and a focus on finding trails.

power hog

Fairly easy to use. Most notable draw back is power consumption while in use. Will kill an iPhone while in route in under 2hrs.

Good concept, lacking execution

First, it makes you sign up before using it at all, which is lame for a relatively obscure app that has no legit need to have your data. I put in a route in San Diego. Very unintuitive. You can't just enter your destination and use current location as start point. UI is unhelpful. I finally managed to put my destination and start point in, and the route it returned was mostly on the shoulder of a 50 mph highway. For context, I took this route yesterday using the most used mapping app, and it did not take me on that road at all. That app's directions weren't perfect, which is why I tried Komoot, but it was better than this. The main issue with the route is that it identified half of the highway (pieces here and there, not a solid stretch) as cycleways. I understand this is just Open Street Maps data, but the ultimate result is a bad experience. On top of this, it doesn't offer an alternative routes like other apps do. I like that you can filter by bike infrastructure type, and the concept is nice, but it's a pain to use and has bad data, so it's an immediate uninstall.

Follows you when GPS is off

Beware. Even after the GPS is turned off in privacy settings, this app follows you and knows where you are. I did not think this was possible, but the app keeps sending me messages based on my location after location services are off.

Terrible HR practices

pdxberlin on

United States

Don’t ever apply for a job here. A relative just did and got a form rejection letter within minutes. The person’s application wasn’t even opened much less read. I realize there may have been many applicants but the applicant took the time and effort to apply. Please if you have too many applicants just take the ad down. Don’t disrespect people like this

Burn in, but great!

atom_h on

United States

Used this app to navigate one 3.5 hour gravel ride and the “buttons” on the lower right of the screen burned in on my older 13 Pro Max. I had the brightness set so that I couldn’t even see the screen when I was in the shade. That said, the navigation and auto rerouting was flawless! I never want to use a Garmin or wahoo again!! I do wish there was a dark mode and/or a way to make the screen automatically get brighter when a turn is coming up.

Needs Work

Tamra Mac on

United States

We have been attempting to use this app for bike touring through Greece. It has been inconvenient and frustrating. It takes us on the local roads and then it seems like the point is to get you off the main road, but we are already off the main road and it ends up taking us on a dirt road, and if there’s even another path, it will take us there. we cannot use this app. We hoped It would provide a reliable route without having to do the work myself to verify the plan. it’s also frustrating to be flying down a hill and have it tell you there’s a turn coming up, but actually it’s just a curve in the road. Needs some work in the details. I cannot recommend this app as a reliable source unless you want to research each recommended route.

Loops

Brianopolis on

United States

I’ve just started with Komoot and like it generally. I just want to register one complaint. The route planner glitches when you try to create a loop or a figure 8.
