I started using this 5 months ago doing 50 words a day, and it has substantially improved vocabulary. The AI repetition is very useful and ensures you finally get the words fixed I. Your head. However there are some simple improvements that could really improve its use, these being: 1. It doesn’t include a dictionary 2. You can’t add words from the sentences to flash cards, which I find particularly irritating. 3. The conjugation exercises have no random test function for individual verbs. Other than that, a useful tool.

After seeing many positive reviews about this app, I decided to give it a try. I use VoiceOver, a screen reader which many blind IOS users need to access apps, websites etc. When I opened the app, nothing. It was so inaccessible to the point where the back-up system to inaccessible apps didn’t even work. I was thoroughly disappointed and deleted the app. I know this issue is not often considered, but I believe accessibility should be an important aspect of app development.

At first it will seem boring because it doesn’t have cute characters or fun exercises like Duolingo or Memrise, but this app is simply better. It’s straightforward: it’s just flash cards with a spaced-repetition algorithm, but it works. The app also teaches you the most common words and keeps them in context by giving you a sentence. This is a must-have for any language learner.

Definitely give this a go. I’ve been through so many language apps, this by far is the best! They actually provide useful and well structured material that has improved my languages so well. A big focus on conversational content, trust me you will learn more than just ‘the dog is in the house’ etc.

This app is really good for learning lots of vocab, the user interface is really nice, simple and classy. My issue is with the lack of explanations. For example when practicing a new deck, sometimes the words will appear in sentences you don’t understand. Similarly when practicing with reading, there is no translation so if you only understand some of the words, there is no way to learn the others. I feel this app is better for intermediates than beginners for definite.

Nice app, but no too much choice yet.

Im half Italian, however, I have not lived there since I was little so my Italian is very rusty. I had struggled to find a way to relearn it as most apps are targeted at beginners so I found myself often going over words and phrases I had already known, and the lack of sufficient stimuli meant my brain wasn’t engaged enough to be in that Goldilocks zone of learning. However, this app seems to be perfectly suited to someone who had once known the language but forgot it over time and to intermediate learners who already understand enough to have a conversation but want to find a way to expand their vocabulary and become more fluent. The little dopamine hits every time I get a word right are really motivating and constantly learning new words keeps me challenged and engaged. Also I love the no-nonsense, logical and efficient approach and interface, which suit my learning style and needs, over some of the more gamified apps which I think are better suited to beginner learners. Even over just a few days I can see my Italian has improved a lot as my brain is recovering forgotten pathways. This has been so important for me as I want to reconnect to my roots but could not previously find a good way to remember Italian again. So in terms of impacting my life in a meaningful way this has been enormous!

The service is fine until you run into an issue and need help. I spent time to submit a bug report for some issues I found with the app, however instead of acknowledging the report or providing support for the issue, they sent a completely unrelated response telling me to check my internet connection and disable browser extensions (for an app?). Surprisingly poor experience compared to other services I’ve used in the past.

I have a dictionary in slide over. Before it works OK when i need to use it. However, now after the update, when you press on the dictionary to type, the cursor automatically goes back to lingvist. I cannot use the slide over dictionary now. Before it is not like that. Please revert back

I went for this app to try to help me learn to speak french. The speech part doesn’t work well at all. Don’t waste your time with this app it will drive you crazy. No I shall not update I absolutely hate this app it doesn’t work at all well. The voice is computer generated and doesn’t recognise mine. The app is so crap it puts a person off learning a language.
