Decent but needs work

Frankoforte_24 on

Overall I like this app but it has flaws. The app should accept alternative words in the phrases, not insist on me having to learn another word. I already know how to say this. (learning a language is already hard enough) Secondly, the voice option capitalizes the first spoken word (when more than one words are needed) and then it doesn’t accept the solution, it wants lower case , then I end up having to type it in by hand. Sort of negates the voice option. Thirdly: Everything is spoken by a robot who really can’t pronounce Italian 100%. It just sounds alien and according to my Italian teacher the robot actually makes some mistakes inflecting words. Recordings of real people would be much better. What’s good: learning words in context, in sentences. It doesn’t look like a stupid videogame. I don’t want virtual trophies and be overly praised for no reason. This one is much better than duocrap and memloss!

Uneven and half baked

ac!!! on

This has an expansive vocab set, more than most apps I’ve seen. However… The fill in the blank style questions have varying degrees of quality for the prompt. I’m studying Spanish which has formal and familiar verb and pronoun forms. Often, there’s no indication of which to use; you’ll be marked wrong and will suffer through having to repeat this question. You can mute particular questions, which works around this, but it shows that attention to detail isn’t there. Other times, the hints are wildly inaccurate or use an obscure minor definition of the word, rather than the more common definition. The app has graphs that track your progress but there are no legends that give you an idea of what they mean. All in all, I don’t feel like you’re getting quality that’s superior to Duolingo and the price is much higher.

Software vs content

Clearly prioritizing UX over actual educational value. And even the UX gets increasingly frustrating

Way better than flash cards

laj428 on

I love using this app to increase my German vocabulary! All the time I was spending making flash cards I can now spend time learning new words in context, and I know my vocabulary is improving because of all the words I now recognize when listening to German podcasts. The UI is very pleasant and easy to use, and there are so many subject decks it’ll probably keep me busy for years!

Great app, but the free trial is a lie. I will give 5 stars once refunded

Лингвист

Плохо отработан голосовой ввод. Было бы здорово если не только отдельные слова но и полные фразы, идиомы присутствовали, это бы очень помогло в жизни

Buggy

SeaOeid on

Had an old account and wanted to retake the placement test. This was not an option so I made a new account to take it. Then tried to subscribe. The app offered a free trial but instead charged me for a year. It also did not even unlock the premium features. I was confused but eventually figured out that it unlocked them on my old account even though I had subscribed while signed into the new account. Also if you have anything playing in the background, it randomly pauses and starts your audio. If you go pause the music then it will start it again if you go back into the app.

Good Tool

JW757 on

Great tool for vocab but one thing that would make it great is if they had images to go along with the words for diff. objects.

One of the best apps out there but could still be improved.

GeorgeS77 on

I really like this app. It’s the. It is the best vocab app I’ve found so far. I feel like the repetition isn’t helping me learn vocabulary but instead memorize the answer to the question. I wish as I find words I don’t know it could be shown to me in different new sentences with different conjugations, tenses, etc. I feel like I am learning but not as much as Lingvist claims. For this reason I can’t justify the cost.

Bring Indonesian to your app
