Careful the app is not working after iOS update.
The app itself is very well done. the sound of the instrument is very good. Unfortunnatly there is some bad point that cost you a lot of money. The import (you should buy add on) with Ireal pro is not a easy as mention, a long process specially on IPad. If you want to import the song from your local file the icon of the app is not always present, so no import …. You have to buy many add on to get fonctionnalities presented in the video of presentation, which was for me not fair at all ! The value of this software as it is presented in the video is not accessible if you do not buy extension. Well i have a strange felling for having spend 15 app + 6 add on … i can’t say i recommend to buy.
If you have a good musical teacher, she or he will probably tell you that it is important to know what you are playing. This means that you not only know the chord but also the function of the chord you are playing, which ultimatly determines which scales the melody or improvisation is using. This improves your ability as a musician tremendously. It is not an easy task but if you have a visual presentation then you fully understand what is going on. Tonal harmony pro gives you this. It opened my eyes and enhanced my musical experience. You can analyse a classical symphony like a pop song or a jazz standard. Even inversions of the chords can be represented which are so important in classical music. As a jazz pianist you may say: I know what a secondary dominant is or a tritone substitution, or a deceptive cadence. But can you visualize it and put it into a perspective ? I got an 12 year old MAC only for this program and as it broke a week ago I did not hesitate a moment and bought the app for my iPad. If you have troubles using this app just be patient. You will find your way and eventually see how western music works.
The App is complicated to operate. The functions promoted on the MDECKS Music Website correspond more to the MacOS version than to the iPad version of the App. I assuemed it would be a more advanced version of what the iReal Pro App can do but I find it is not the case. For example you cannot load any songs into the app. The only interface is to iTunes which does not help much. It might be useful for studying music theory but not for a giging musician. I hope an update to version 7 might bring some useful funtions.
Not yet clear about the value of this app. User experience is not very good
