Mapping Tonal Harmony Pro Reviews

Nice but incomplete

fuudufucicueywukcockseususuu on

Denmark

The accompaniments sounds good, but very basic features are missing, making it unusable for play along. 1. Basic transport controls are missing, once you hit the play button your stuck at the apps mercy, no pause or stop buttons 2. No playlists, this is very important, it is inefficient to have search as the only interface for choosing tunes 3. Slow startup, for some reason the app is rebuilding its internal catalog every time you start the app 4. Missing jazz standards, you quickly realize that you have to do an in-app purchase to get access to a decent catalog of standards, and this is still very incomplete. This app needs the ability to import iReal sings, to be really useful, or provide an equally big catalog of tunes 5. Compact sheet presentation is missing, I see no value of all the complex analysis features in the mobile app. I would much rather have a clean and compact presentation, and use the desktop app for analysis The app falls between two chairs, it is a downscaled version of the desktop app, to compact for use as an analysis tool, and too complex to use for play along. I like the desktop app, I like the quality of the generated music, I also like the small icon displaying the function of the current chord, but it is generally to impractical for use as a play along companion app, like iReal.

Excellent product

Takes a little time to understand the app, but excellent product. Definitely worth the price. Music theory becomes very much alive with this app. So much knowledge build inte this product, and it keeps getting better. Have many music apps, this is the only one I use!

Not enough content

The 4-5 jazz standards that comes with this app is far from enough to justify the price tag. To get access to the 1000+ jazz standards mentioned in the description, you will have buy them as an add-on (more expensive than the app). I have not bought the add-ons, so this review is only for the base package - but for me, this app is not worth the price.

Voicing Keyboard not working iOS

Why is the voicing keyboard not showing the voicings during playback? Seems like such an easy thing to have work

THE TOOL I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR

An amazing tool that elegantly ties together a solution for every part of the composition process I have trouble with!

God tier!

I usually don’t write reviews but Mdecks’ stuff is absolutely the best in the world for learning harmony and unpacking scales. Even if you are a self taught metalhead, like me. This app is just genius. Thank you!!

Buggy, crashes immediately on iPhone

Scott272727 on

Love the concept but it crashes whenever I try to start playback. App has worked in the past (somewhat) on various devices but is pretty unreliable to the point that I find myself not using it. Please hire a UX designer and a coder for a little bit to fix your bugs and this would be such a great way to study harmony!

Could be cool….but

I got the free Play-Along version of this app and liked it a bit more than IReal. I then paid $9.99 to download the 1300 song jazz catalog. It is for the most part a very comprehensive catalog. I then read on the app that if I bought the Pro version, I would keep all of my songs and be able to use them in the Pro version. This does not seem to be true, or it is not entirely evident how to get them to show up on the IOS version. I found this to be highly disappointing and am now considering this a waste of money! I really wanted to like this better, but the fact that I can’t access the songs that I ALREADY bought from them seems like wack. I emailed the contact information for the company and never received a response either. When I go to files on my IPad, there is no file under these two apps with songs in them???? Where are they? I could change my opinion on this I find out that there is a solution. I also find the “information” dialogue box that pops up every time you touch practically anything on this app to be tiresome. Perhaps there is a way to make this blue box stop popping up? Also, for the most part, on the IPad, I just want to play some songs for practice and have them sound good. I appreciate that the app does some better stuff than IReal, but I don’t really see the benefit of the whole mapping visual display of the computer thinking etc. since it is really quite small and I am trying to play while the song is going along.

So underrated
