I really want to like this product but navigation is bad, the app often requires logging in anew, and, as others have noted, sound cannot be sent via Airplay to speakers. Every other music-oriented app can do the latter. Tech support tries to help but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear
Does not work with Homepod
Needs update to output audio to Homepod
Poor Apple TV app
Subtitles do not work on Apple TV app. And customer support only good for sending your messages back to you.
Captions Too Small
Do not subscribe to this app if you need to read captions to follow Royal Shakespeare Company productions. The captions are way too small to be read, even on a TV screen, and there is no way to adjust them. When I reported this to Marquee customer support, I was told that the captions were small so they could be “adjusted,” which makes no sense whatsoever. I had to cancel my subscription.
Grade C-
Marquee’s catalog is small, the rate at which they acquire new material glacial, and their app primitive. My interests are broad, but I’ve nonetheless exhausted their offerings after only a few months. The app is annoying, lacking any of the niceties of other video players. The quality of the materials is wildly inconsistent, and I’ve often found better productions in higher quality on YouTube for free. While there’s certainly content worth watching and the app is serviceable, none of it justifies the current subscription price.
Several issues
App has many issues. Will not cast productions to Apple TV. Freezes and never loads once connected. When you download operas to watch offline, there’s no way to access subtitles. Also, when streaming from the Apple TV app, there is no way to transfer the sound to another device. You can select an alternate option like HomePod or AirPods but it will default back to the tv sound system. All of these things make the app practically useless unless you want to simply watch on your iPad or phone.
Love it!
One of the best streaming services I’ve ever used. The app interface is a little clunky, esp the way it loads as you scroll, but the design is nice and wow the content.
Be aware of the problem of not letting you cancel.
If you subscribe from its website, and use this app, you cannot cancel your subscription on the app - furthermore, you can't even cancel it on the webpage if you logged in the account with your google email. (I still CANNOT cancel it as of now)
There is simply no cancellation button on the account management page - I have never seen anything more ridiculous than this.
Please rethink when you subscribe. The contents are good, the website/app are poorer than one can ever imagine.
Thank you,
Equate window into some of the best live cultural performances. The mix is wonderful including contemporary dance classical opera and everything in between.
