Model Colors is an application for helping you keep track of your hobby model colors and projects. Have you ever ended up buying the wrong colors because you didn’t remember the exact code of the color you needed or forgot to get that pesky Dunkelgelb that you needed to finish that glorious tank you’re working on? If so, then Model Colors helps you keep track of the colors that you own and the colors that you need to buy. The application contains lists of all colors from a set of brands and you can browse these lists and mark the ones you already own and the ones you need to buy. Currently the app has over 35000 colors included from most big and many small manufacturers.
The lists of your own colors and colors that you need to buy can be easily shared via mail, iMessage etc.
If you mainly use some particular color types or individual colors you can set them as favorites and easily access them from the main menu.
You can check for colors that are similar to a certain color either via color standards like FS, RAL, RLM etc, or via industry standard CIE deltaE 2000 calculations.
Various colors can also be grouped together for quick access into custom color lists. You can keep the colors you normally use for US airplanes in one list and colors you use for fantasy miniatures in another, making them easy to find.
Currently the following brands and color lists are represented, in total over 33000 colors and other products:

You can also add the models that you are working on or plan to build in the future. For each model you can register the colors that are required and make sure that you don't forget to buy any essential colors. Each model can have a photos associated with it as well as notes. Using the notes and photos it is easy to keep a build diary or just keep track of things that you need to do at some point.
Model Colors requires iCloud and iCloud Drive to be enabled for the app to work. iCloud Drive is used to save photos and documents for our models.
Model Colors includes a voluntary subscription in order to support the application development. For now the app can also be used completely for free.

This app is excellent for scale modellers
Allows you to easily add models and their details, price place of purchase, scale, manufacturer, paints used, and photos plus heaps of other info about that particular model
Back up is great as is communication with the developer
Responds quickly to questions in a very timely manner
App is regularly updated with new paints from all the major players
Not bad but…
This isn’t a bad app but I’d love the option to filter out the brands that I don’t use. When finding colour matches, I don’t want to scroll through hundreds of options for paints which I don’t like or aren’t available to me.
Best app for scale modellers
If you are a builder of scale models of any kind, give this feature rich app a try. From the paint catalog, to the similar colour feature, the shopping list, relating paints to models, the level of detail you can enter for each model, adding aftermarket products too, and relating these to your models so that you can track your detail kits, decals and masking per model, this app is THE best. But the thing that really makes it stand out is the developer. He actively seeks feedback via the forums listed in the app (Facebook, Discord) and works on bugs as they are reported. He asks for ideas for new features and actually implements them. As a long time user and someone who has provided feedback and requests over the last couple of years this app feels like “our” app. With this app I am so much more organised, so I can spend less time working out what I already have and need for that next project and more time getting on with the joy of making models.
Unrivaled paint catalog
The app is the best modeling aid on the App Store. Saved so much money not buying paint I already have. Still have not used the project tools included in the app but they look very useful.
PEOPLE DO GET IT RIGHT
Fantastic App - one of the best I have used in years.
Can’t even use it - 08/08/20
When the app is opened the first time it wants to download colour data. Sometimes this fails. But even if it succeeds, I get “failed to fetch user data!” telling me to sign into iCloud.
I am already signed into iCloud. Even if I sign out and back in, and swipe the app away and restart, it makes no difference. Even if I use 4G vs Wifi, it also makes no difference. The app always fails.
Whichever error appears, the app then displays the error and you cannot do anything else but close it completely or delete it.
After deletion, and reinstallation, the app tries harder to download the data again. But fails every time for me.
Basing the startup of your app on access to data that may fail to download, then giving the user no further option to retry download or at least use the app in skeleton form... is fundamentally terrible app design.
Does not work
Appear to be unsupported, shame - looked like a great app.
Used to be excellent
Loved using this app - spent ages entering my paint collection and loved the cross reference feature between manufacturers. BUT no longer works and the developer can’t be contacted and their website is ‘under construction’. Such a shame.
Does not work
Colour chart will not download. Am signed into iCloud which it requires. No support link.
Best paint app ive owned and ive tried a few
This is the best paint app ive tried and owned. I look forward to supporting this project.
