Description

Model Colors is an application for helping you keep track of your hobby model colors and projects. Have you ever ended up buying the wrong colors because you didn’t remember the exact code of the color you needed or forgot to get that pesky Dunkelgelb that you needed to finish that glorious tank you’re working on? If so, then Model Colors helps you keep track of the colors that you own and the colors that you need to buy. The application contains lists of all colors from a set of brands and you can browse these lists and mark the ones you already own and the ones you need to buy. Currently the app has over 35000 colors included from most big and many small manufacturers.
The lists of your own colors and colors that you need to buy can be easily shared via mail, iMessage etc.
If you mainly use some particular color types or individual colors you can set them as favorites and easily access them from the main menu.
You can check for colors that are similar to a certain color either via color standards like FS, RAL, RLM etc, or via industry standard CIE deltaE 2000 calculations.
Various colors can also be grouped together for quick access into custom color lists. You can keep the colors you normally use for US airplanes in one list and colors you use for fantasy miniatures in another, making them easy to find.

You can also add the models that you are working on or plan to build in the future. For each model you can register the colors that are required and make sure that you don't forget to buy any essential colors. Each model can have a photos associated with it as well as notes. Using the notes and photos it is easy to keep a build diary or just keep track of things that you need to do at some point.
Model Colors requires iCloud and iCloud Drive to be enabled for the app to work. iCloud Drive is used to save photos and documents for our models.
Model Colors includes a voluntary subscription in order to support the application development. For now the app can also be used completely for free.

Great modeller’s app

I’ve enjoyed this app for collating my craft model paints for a few years and Jan keeps updating it for us all. Worthwhile being a Premium member for keeping your invaluable stash together

Best of the Best

This is a superb app that is both useful and easy to use. I have over 500 colours input and now working on my model stash. The app is regularly updated with new colours and has a team of beta testers to keep it useful. I have used many other apps to control my colours, this is the best by far. The new Build Log adds another dimension by allowing you to keep notes on your ideas and projects.

Excellent app but could do with some tweaks

I’ve been trying to find a way to catalogue and managing my growing collection of paints. This app seems perfect for doing this in a way that is effective and attractive, especially compared to some of the clunkier zoos out there. The ability to add model projects is excellent! There are a few bugs, which can be frustrating, so it would be great to see these addressed. Also, a few missing features would, I feel, add to the value here: 1) a select multiple or batch add feature would help quickly build paint collections; 2) when adding colours to model projects being able to view just the Stash rather than every colour in the Library would avoid endless scrolling past paints I don’t own; 3) a folder or grouping system would really help manage Colour Lists (e.g. by drawer, colour matches, triads, etc.) and Model projects (e.g. gathering bases, shades and highlights by model section). Otherwise, I’m enjoying this tool a lot!

So much potential

Downloaded this yesterday after a trip to a hobby store which saw be buying some paints which I already had. Enough is enough, put all my paints, pigments etc in from all different manufacturers, over 500, took me ages. But relieved it was finally done. Woke up this morning a missed a couple which were on my desk, no problem il put them in now. Nope, won’t let me log in, authentication failed. 😩😩😩 what a complete waste of time. Was so happy with this app too.

Best app for a modeller

Excellent app with a dedicated developer that is constantly evolving and improving. Hope for same level of support in the future. Highly recommended

Great app

Use this app to record my paints, washes and stash, fantastic tool for comparing the vast range of shades that are, apparently, the same colour or for amending instructions with preferred brand of paint. Please use and support: much to useful to lose!

Everything doubled up

I’d normally rate this as 4 stars. BUT … I’ve just updated the app and along with the new interface it has doubled all my paint counts. Very, very, very irritating.

Used to be useful

I used to love this app but there’s been an update recently and now whenever I try to open it I get an unexpected error, please try again later. Which means I can’t access any of my saved paint details.
