Description

Molecules is an application for viewing three-dimensional renderings of molecules and manipulating them using your fingers. You can rotate the molecules by moving your finger across the display, zoom in or out by using two-finger pinch gestures, or pan the molecule by moving two fingers across the screen at once. These structures can be viewed in both ball-and-stick and spacefilling visualization modes.
Molecules can be stored on your handheld device for later viewing and are loaded via a standard document-based file browser.
Custom molecular structures can be downloaded to the application via file sharing or iCloud, and obtained via sources like the RCSB Protein Data Bank (http://www.rcsb.org/pdb), an international repository of biological molecules and their 3-D structures, or NCBI's PubChem (http://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov), a public database of compounds. For more details, please visit our website.
Molecules is a BSD-licensed open source project.

Molecules Reviews

No longer works at all

Hi lovely Sunset Lake devs, Do you have any plans to update this one so it will work with current iOS (iOS 12 as I write this review)? I really liked the app, but iOS refuses to run it now. Thanks, keep up the good work! Martin

Needs updating

JackMccabeAllen on

United Kingdom

Needs visual improvements, iOS 7 and more more features added such as being able to see the double bonding.

Good but...

It's good apart from it deletes all of your downloaded molecules when you reopen it

Useful but...

Very useful app would recommend it but the search feature needs improving because i cannot find simple molecules like water. Also, all of my downloaded molecules have disappeared i have downloading them again but it says that i have already downloaded it and then crashes - PLEASE FIX!! Also the GUI needs updating for ios 7.

Fascinating

This app is extremely good, you can check other reviews for usefulness. However, iPhone/iPod 5 support is needed, as it is not full-screen. Again, atom colour key is needed, but otherwise it is worth the download.

Love it!

Yea ok, nerdy.... but study A-Level chemistry and human biology, so this interests me. Nicely presented and easy to use. I would echo other reviews in saying let us build some basic bit and bobs, like virtual molymods!! Also a key would be useful but I am quite enjoying working out the atoms :p would reccommed to anyone curious about chemistry!

Good but not great

Great little app for teachers and students but would be much improved by the addition of 'ribbon view' to show secondary structure.

Fascinating!

Great little app (if you're into Molecules!) Not quite 5* because when you zoom in some of the atoms black out... Needs fixing!

It is very good and useful. Helps to show huge molecules but I think it would be nice if there was a way to see the molecule go through the vibrations that they have. And to sort the molecules that are downloaded into order
