Monal - XMPP Chat

It’s quite buggy, for example not being able to select a profile pic from camera roll and not being able to set a nickname. The options are there but they simply don’t work. Also a prettier and clearer display for replies would be nice, as it’s not clear who is being replied to and you can’t click on this to go to the replied to message. However it’s the only working XMPP app on iOS so for that reason I can’t complain too much.

I had high hopes that this software was going to work. I installed the app on two phones as well as macOS. I was running against an older version of open fire initially, but could not get it to establish omemo connectivity. It kept reporting that the other device contact didn’t appear to support omemo. I figured I was probably doing something wrong so I emailed the developer. He responded fairly quickly but told me in rather a rude way that I was using an old server that probably didn’t support the right pub sub. This would’ve actually been a reasonable response, if he hadn’t had also said that he wasn’t going to waste his precious time, working with old servers. A reasonable request, however, delivered in a pretty bad customer service way. I upgraded to the latest version of open fire, and this made absolutely no difference. Interestingly, I installed ChatSecure. And this worked perfectly against the old version, as well as the latest version of open fire with no glitches whatsoever. My advice is to use ChatSecure if you’re using open fire and not to waste any of your precious time attempting to get Monal to work with Openfire. As a last note, I appreciate this software is free, but I’m always happy to donate to app developers when they do good work

Definitely the nicest looking XMPP client on iDevices, good customisability, features and fairly frequent updates. Definitely recommend!

Easy to use

This just doesn’t work, at least with chat groups. I have experienced a terrible desync. It’s a shame because there aren’t many other options for xmpp clients with omemo on ios and Monal has the best UI (but an awful UX honestly). I will keep an eye on it as it will hopefully improve.

Sure it's glitchy: mostly UI issues as the interface is a bit unorthodox... but it works! And can be a fully-featured XMPP client. And unlike all the others I've tried you can join a MUC (multi-user chat room) and actually use it. The best possible thing I feel this app could do is to abandon its more ... eccentric UI elements and behaviours and otherwise keep doing what it does well :)

I can able to create the group successfully,but how can I invite the users to my group?

Constantly having problems with disconnect. Now the app is just crashing the second I log on. Can’t find any way to contact support so writing a bad review.

Perfect Work Easy

Still a great app but was hoping the group chat feature would be fixed, still not working 😢
