Noteful: Note-Taking on PDF

I have used dozens of “note” apps over the years and this one has become my preferred app for initial design concepts and anything I want to draw or “write” in with handwriting. I still use the Apple Notes app for “typed” notes; “Concepts” for CAD-“like” design work (requiring more accurate measurements, but not full-blown CAD); “Shapr3D” for actual CAD work; and “Procreate” for art & photo-editing. Noteful became my “go to” when I realized it allowed you to create layers, which no other note app I could find allowed. That feature alone, allowed me to get migrate all my other drawn and handwritten notes into Noteful and discard the many other “similar” apps I was using for various projects due to the pro’s or con’s that each app had.

I really want to make Noteful work because I’m tired of the glitches and lack of layers in goodnotes but some basic things need to be fixed before it’s worth it to move all my stickers to Noteful notebooks and ditch GN. I should be able to consistently move a sticker image from one open Noteful notebook to one right next in split screen just by dragging. This only works for a bit if I delete the app. I should be able to drag the edge of a textbox to resize it without changing the font size. I should be able to zoom out on a page with a quick pinch gesture and have it fit without having to click fit. Lockable Layers are great but the fact that layers aren’t separated by page is just dangerous. And when I switch tasks and go back to Noteful, my images don’t show up in the secondary notebook I have open in split screen. Not cool and not good for focus.

When it comes to note taking apps, this one takes the cake. It’s smooth, easy to use and a really great price. I love the fact that I don’t have to get a subscription to use the whole app. I use it for school and person notes and it just makes things so easy for me! I love how many things they’re adding as time passes and how much I get for such a low price point. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier with this app💖

After trying many alternatives, this app combined everything I liked about different note-taking / pdf annotation apps all into one in a very clean, productive interface. I use it as a software developer to sketch out my ideas and take meeting notes—I use it as a researcher and student to read and annotate papers and textbook pdfs (made even more useful by the layers feature) (AND GET THIS: you can ADD custom pages in between pdf pages!!! This is a MAJOR boon, you can literally write your homework solutions on a fresh page within the textbook!!! And then you can export just those pages for submission!!!)—I use it to work through linear algebra and calculus III homework and it allows me to create neat plots with the extremely convenient dynamic shape-creation tools; large, customizable paper types; and beautiful pen colors and dynamics—I use it to fill out pdf forms—I plan to use it for all future courseworks and tasks and it has made me actually prefer to reach for my iPad when I need to do any of those things, a utilitarian feeling about my iPad I struggled to have until, literally, this app haha. The free version is already incredible, the (extremely!?) cheap one-time purchase is more than worth it for extensive use, and the constant updates make this feel like a real diamond in the rough. I don’t recommend or review apps but this is one I recommend to other students and note-takers. The only thing I wish for is the ability to group color sets together (an example use case: being able to use different colors when working on light versus dark paper). Something else I’ve never seen a note-taking app do but that I’ve always wanted is the ability to add pages “laterally”, as in, somehow being able to add a page to the left or right of the current page, especially when annotating pdfs such as textbooks. Idk how this could be accomplished elegantly, but

I really love Noteful, it allow you to be very creative. Great study tool. I use it for Bible study and Journaling. If I could add a feature to make it prefect I would add the option to place password protection on notebook of choice. I also would like more stickers, even if it’s an add on purchase. It would be worth it to buy!!!
