Sleep timer option taken out
I love NPR. I liked the sleep timer which they had. They took it out. Now if I fall asleep, it is just annoying to get woken up by some strange music. I do not know what my brain thinks while I am listening.
Erratic
Inconsistent and unreliable. Playback pauses and disconnection from airplay devices. This app seems to work better in environments with fewer airplay or Bluetooth devices. Nonetheless it is finicky and erratic. Apple Music, Spotify and other similar apps are rock solid in the same environments.
Endless adds for NPR+ subscribers
I have been a public radio supporter for more than 30 years. As I live overseas, I rely on this app for my access to NPR and am an NPR+ subscriber. Despite being a subscriber, the app inserts messages asking me to become a subscriber between every 3 or 4 stories. Worse yet, it is the same message, which is driving me to stop using the app and return to listening to live radio. Please stop the fundraising messages for your loyal subscribers!
Where is the hourly 5 min national news update?
Replacing the old NPR app a while ago was imo a mistake; it decreased my engagement but at least I could listen to the hourly 5min news. In this latest version the 5 min national news updates disappeared. I liked NPR and supported it but without the news, I no longer will.
Episodes disappeared
My dad and I are avid listeners of car talk and would always listen to car talk using the npr one app. This had a massive collections of episodes so that we would never run out. We were forced to move over to the “better” npr app that claimed to still have all of “news, podcasts, and shows” that I loved. This was not the case. There are now only 4 episodes of car talk available through NPR. It is a shame that one of the top podcasts on the NPR app was stripped away of all of its episodes and left with four. For the Car Talk fans this is app is not better. It is quite the opposite. Please restore the episodes.
PLEASE give us a dark mode!
I love using the NPR app to read articles, but I tend to read first thing in the morning or late in the evening when it’s dark so the bright white background does not make it the most enjoyable reading experience. PLEASE give us a dark mode!
