Poor design aside (why not download segments for continuous listening in the subway? Why repeat segments on a show like a radio broadcast?) none of the feature actually work as intended. Regularly skips from the middle of one story to the middle of another, skipping several in between, all in its own. Hope they didn’t pay anyone real money to code this.
This app needs fixing. The design interface is confusing and when I am listening, it will reliably—but randomly—cut out at some point, requiring me to go in and hit the play button again. This one just needs a redesign.
It should not be hard to find the news on npr. Then, to find a list of events 1/10 as long as apneas…deleted the app.
Not worth wasting my time to even write a review. It’s a junk
I hate the new UI layout. Everything is too big and horrible to find what you want. Zero stars would be a better rating.
If I have to pause for a moment to do something, I need it to start playing again when I hit the ’play’ icon on my audio controls on my phone’s Lock Screen, like every other app, EVER! Instead I have to go back into the app, hit the app’s ’play’ button, usually several times. Right now I’m writing this review because I can’t get it to start streaming again after an incident just like this. I was excited to see the update, and so disappointed that it seems not to have addressed basic functionality like this. I’m going back to TuneIn radio. At least they’re able to stream properly. Update: the app asked me to reset my password, but then won’t return me to the login page. I just can’t understand how they can mess up an app whose functionality should be so basic: just play the radio!
The new app makes it difficult to access my local station online/real time. It pushes toward NPR one, which I do not need. And toward podcasts. My device is my “radio”…. I have had so much trouble streaming my local station I actually dug an old radio out of the back of a storage unit since it was more dependable. The link to local station often - very often - just plain doesn’t connect at all.
Really appreciate the great news articles but I have to wonder why we don’t have dark mode available. Personally I would use this app a lot more if it had it. White is too bright at night, and it’s actually quite bad for sleep hygiene. Perhaps it’s not in your brands color palette but please provide it as an option.
Title say it, they’ll update the app to have unskippable ads from sponsors, yet after literally years of everyone asking for a dark mode they won’t even do that small thing. Shame.
It is maddening that I cannot adjust play speed to 1.5x - 2x for podcasts. I don't have much time and like listening to talk at a more rapid clip - for this reason, I prefer listening to NPR podcasts the Apple Podcast app.
