Never works
This App it’s a completely disaster at least in my IPad. It never works, I couldn’t even log in. I only can read in my computer without any app.

The Onleihe – the free of charge service of your library now as an app, supports over 2.900 libraries.
With this app you’ll always have your library with you. Browse the collection of your library and lent eBooks and eMagazine on the fly or from your home directly with your smartphone or tablet. You can also lent eAudio and eMusic titles, listen to them via streaming or download them directly onto your device. Following the same principle as the web-based Onleihe, the lent titles can be consumed free of charge for a certain set amount of time. Afterwards the titles will automatically be returned to the library.
You can search directly throughout the app or browse the collection of your library through different categories and eMagazines. On first sight, you’ll see if a title is available and you can alter your search results with an wide array of different filter or sort options.
The detailed view of a certain title will give you all the information you seek, from the name of the book, the author, to the series name, length and much more. If a title is temporary not available you can also reserve it. As soon as the title is then available for you, you will get an e-mail notification to the address you specified. Your reservations are easily accessible with an overview and you can directly lent the titles if they are available. Should you no longer need an ongoing reservation or if you do need to change the address, you are able to edit or delete your reservations.
At any given time you can access your overview of your lent titles. At the moment you are able to lent, read or listen to eBooks, eMagazines, eAudios and eMusic titles.
ACCESS
To access the service of the Onleihe, you need to be an active member of a library who is part of the Onleihe system. Username and login credentials are provided by your library. Should you already use the Onleihe via the web-browser you can use the exact same login credentials to access the app.
CONSUME MEDIA
You are able to directly load and read all eBooks and eMagazines which you have lent beforehand. You are also free use a different external DRM able eBook reader. eAudio and eMusic titles can be streamed directly via the in app player, or you can chose to download the titles and listen to them later on, even offline. This also needs to be done directly via the in app player.

time-stealing, hopeless
I have spent too much time trying to make this app work in order to read books from the Goethe Institute‘s library. I certainly hope that Goethe is not paying any money for this app! Goethe offers a wonderful library that got me excited to read more German-language books. But the Onleih app oonly allows me to read a few chapters of each book before it will no longer load a page. The pages remain gray and never quite load. The option of using the website also does not work for more than a half-day. And it looks impossible to actually reach a human who might help. (The audiobooks by contrast have worked fine for me. So they are maybe the one reason to keep the app.)

German ‘Digitalisierung’ in a nutshell
I’m throwing the towel in on this app. It has always been excruciatingly slow with file downloads, but now it just mocks you with the faint, stalled out green circle. Maybe the developer stroked out. I’d rather pass a kidney stone than waste any more time with this nonsense.
Downloads get stuck
This app often gets stuck while downloading borrowed books. Sometimes the problem cannot be resolved for days. I have been using this app for years to access German library ebooks. The problem has been discussed in online forums ever since but the developer doesn’t fix it.
Completely unusable
Cant login. Cant read anything. This app is completely broken
So schlecht!
Diese App ist so unglaublich grottig, unfassbar. Und irgendwie scheint es immer schlimmer zum werden. Eigentlich muss ich jetzt immer, wenn ich Pause mache, sehen, an welchem Zeitpunkt im Aufiobuch ich bin, denn mindestens jedes zweite Mal wenn ich weiter hören will, springt dieses blöde Teil zum Anfang zurück 😡😩 Wenn ich Audiobücher herunter lade, speichern sie sich meistens (2 von 3) erst mal auf dem Handy aber nicht unter „on device“, nee, das wäre ja zu einfach. Also entweder muss ich es löschen und nochmal herunterladen und auch ja nicht die App wechseln, oder ich muss das Audiobuch bei „Lend“ (ausgeliehen) anklicken um zu hören. Und dann sind da noch die Male, wo die App hängen bleibt und dann ein nächsten mal dort weiter liest, wo ich das letzte Mal schon weiter gehört habe. Also auch Mist. Wie gesagt: am besten immer beim aufhören nachsehen, an welchem Zeitpunkt im Buch ich Pause mache 🙄 Diese App ist vergleichbar mit einem Commodore 64, wenn ich da mal an andere Hörbuch Apps denke ☹️
Bücher laden nicht.
Seit ein paar Tagen funktioniert der Download nicht mehr. Er startet aber bleibt dann stecken. Wegen IOS 16?
Bugs
I literally hope the builder do sth about enormous bugs , i can’t easily download books always unknown errors occurred.. für movies that seems like never gonna work at all. Plus databank at this library is unbelievable limited. Schade
Es hätte so schön sein können…
Aber die App hat es geschafft, in den 4 Jahren seit meiner letzten Nutzung noch schlechter zu werden. Man könnte meinen, dass eine App, die von der Mehrheit der Bibliotheken in Deutschland genutzt wird, eher Andrang dazu hätte, sich in diesem Zeitraum zu verbessern. Ständig landen Titel auf meiner Wunschliste, weil die App nicht versteht, dass ich nur durch die Listen scrollen möchte und mein Daumen als Rechtshänder eben eher auf der rechten Bildschirmseite aufkommt - also genau auf der Seite, wo sich der Button für die Wunschliste befindet. (Dieses Problem habe ich bei keiner anderen App.) Die Listenansicht lädt teilweise unvollständig, so dass man keine anständige Übersicht erhält. Downloads laden eher langsam und selbst wenn man ein Hörbuch vor dem Abspielen herunterlädt, kommt es trotzdem immer wieder zu Unterbrechungen beim Abspielen. Man kann keine Suchen abspeichern und muss ständig alles neu einstellen, wenn man gerne zwischen Genres und Medien wechselt. Außerdem würde ich gerne die Sprache in der App wechseln. Die App orientiert sich hier leider nur nach den Systemeinstellungen (bei mir auf Englisch eingestellt), ich würde aber eine deutsche App viel lieber auf Deutsch nutzen ohne die Systemsprache ändern zu müssen. Insgesamt enttäuscht die App mich leider in Sachen Funktionalität und UX.
