Great notes app if you want to keep notes locally

rkhmelyuk on

Thanks for fixing the issue with subscription getting forgotten. Otherwise, great tool to make notes, and it is pretty stable for me for last 1.5 years. Using it daily for my notes, and love it does not require me to sync to some cloud.

Extortion

JimScard on

The developer decided to force everyone into their subscription model by taking away synchronization with notebooks stored on Microsoft OneDrive -- which is required in order to be able to use Microsoft OneNote with the notebooks. S

Why Pay Subscription for Outline , when I can pay a Subscription for One Note

SeriouslyNotSoDifficult on

The subscription model defeats the purpose 'lifetime' purchase of $49.99. If I wanted to pay for a subscription, then I could pay for OneNote (which has superior features), than Outline. The reason why I like outline was because it was just a one time purchase (there was never a free trial or it being a free app) and it was decent alternative to OneNote, minus dark mode (which is what I really wanted in Outline). This is disappointing and I understand the business model, but even Agenda has a "One Time (Lifetime) Purchase Option" for their customer base. Outline is not like MS Office (which gives more apps, including OneNote) around the same price. I understand business and business, but as a loyal Outline App defender, this new business model defeats the purpose of having Outline (especially when there is not any new features like dark mode). I would reconsider if there was a reasonable one time (lifetime) purchase option. Your competitor is OneNote, Notebooks (and even SnipNotes) Apps, yet, your app is not superior to either one to justify a monthly or yearly subscription as sole options. Please reconsider your busines pricing and customer base. This is really a good alternative app, but with the updates and features (including removing or no longer supporting the app for iPad and iPhone), it doesn't really support the price point or lack of subscription options. In addition, please reconsider bringing the app (including updates/new features for Outline:Powerful Notes ) for the iPad(at least) without subjecting your customer base to additional subscription fees for the app in iPad/iPhone.

Poor poor customer service

Unethical Developer

K_Pags on

Really PO’ed that this app was changed to a subscription with an unfair extremely short 15 day notice. I payed full price ($39.99) just three months ago. I don’t buy subscription based apps/software because it costs more in the long run and you have to trust the developer to continue to make improvements and new releases… there are no guarantee’s that the developer will do that. I’d rather wait for a new release and see what it entails and then decide to purchase it or not. Outline is a niche app, it’s not a significant enough app to demand a subscription payment plan. I should have been informed at the time I placed my order that this change was coming. Gorillized Corp very well knew the changeover to subscription app was coming for at least as long that it took them to design and develop Version 4. It was unethical of Gorillized Corp to accept payment for new orders knowing that a significant change was underway. It was a total “bait and switch” tactic. I tried to contact the Gorillized Corp but their website does not provide any contact information other than a contact form… a red flag for certain. No phone number, no business address, no email address. There’s no way to contact them except via their contact form… isn’t that convenient way for them to avoid dealing with things they don't want to deal with. I demanded a refund and explained why. First they offered me a free 1-year access to Outline Pro. Why is that viable? I mean why continue using an app that you don’t intend to use long term… it just handcuffs you to it. Then they said my other option was to ask the Apple Store for a refund… but the purchase is not eligible for a refund since I purchased it 3 months ago. After I pushed back on this the response I received was a terse "we heard you"... but no refund. As far as I’m concerned hey have stolen from me. BAIT AND SWITCH is what they did. Unethical business practice is what it is.

No more as of today

Outline has many good and useful features although not as robust as it should be. Getting sync between tablet and Mac was not a good experience where I even had to contact support to discover I had to import them into the tablet version before they would sync. I used Outline extensively at the start, reduced usage as I saw no real improvement in areas they really needed to step up in. Just recieved an email and I will be removing Outline from my devices. The email was regarding "subscription" cost starting June 1, 2023. No real progress and now subscription is not a good model as I already paid the additional to get all features and now they want to collect more?

Terrible App with no response from the developer for a year!!!

JAH_Betsy on

I have tried and tried to like this product and make it work. But no go. This product is flawed and has so many problems: • Images pasted to a page disappear • Sections with information go blank • Backups can’t be restored • App duplicates sections and renames them • Memory consumption is huge Without a doubt, no Mac App has been as frustrating to use as this one.

Almost perfect

Annallysea on

The ONLY thing that is stopping me from giving this app 5 stars is that there isn't an option to wrap text around pictures - you have to manually adjust the text and boxes rather than the text wrapping around the image as you type. Other than that, perfect app for my needs!

Terrific alternative to OneNote

Smiley1967 on

For me, OneNote has been so problematic over the years -- lost notes, missing pictures, can;t find stuff, crashing -- so I have been looking for a great alternative for a while. Evernote is just so different functionally, so I could never get excited. This product, Outline, is a dream. I hope to eventually leave MSFT all together. There are a few features missing, but it does not have all the crashes, etc that OneNote has. And, I can make easy backups. Thank you Outline!

Glad I found Outline to replace MS OneNote

jrodrig6605 on

The app works great for me in my MacBook Pro, I was able to import my MS OneNotes to it. My org doesn't allow access to the MS Cloud which MS OneNote forces their users to use. The one feature I would really like for Outline to have is integration with MS Outlook (desktop version) is to be able to click on a "Send to Outline" button and create a new page based on the email or meeting invite. Other than that I think it is great. I use it every day.
