How much does Perfect Ear cost?
Perfect Ear has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is 31.99 R.
First purchased the app about a year ago, and absolutely loved it. It’s very simple, but guides you through really basic music theory and slowly works up towards more complex structures and training. Lost practice after a while, but just came back to it now to find that the app crashes every time I complete an exercise, so there is no way to progress. Worse than that, to try and fix the problem, I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, only to find that it entirely erased all my progress, and so I have to start everything again.
In its current state, the app is unusable, save for a few features. I’ll be very happy to return to it if it gets fixed, but for now it’s just frustrating.
Stellar- when it works
This app has a pleasant user interface that is great to use until it bugs out. I paid for all of the extended features, but can’t get anywhere with the singing pitch assesment feature because it will randomly stop detecting sound. Not only will this break any streak and prevent you from finishing the exercise, it’s also very frustrating.
Second, if you are engaging in an exercise such as their Rhythm Imitation section, repeating the audio sample will cause the exercise to essentially freeze. You can tap the input but it will not react, and the metronome will play but not be reflected in the button you use to engage.
Overall frustrating, with a little more effort and love this app would be legendary.
Exercises are good mic integration terrible
Literally cannot complete exercises in the interval singing section due to the mic stopping working after about 3 - 5 exercises. Also, there’s no way to adjust the sensitivity of the mic to cut out external/background noise. If the app dev fixes that issue this would a 5star app with purchasing other exercises for. At present it’s a decent free app to get you started
Not for IPones
Does not work well with iPhones. Typically locks up at least once every minute.
Microphone errors
I’m trying to do the pitch trainer singing drills- it plays a note and uses the microphone to hear you then repeat that note and grade your accuracy.
However sometimes it moves ahead to the next note without me hitting the “next” button, and when I hit “repeat” the play the note that I’m trying to match again, the microphone picks up that sound and grades it against the following note.
THEN it picks up nothing! I can type the microphone button, which provides visual feedback, or “next” or “repeat” and it will not process the sound at all.
App crashes frequently
Most exercises do not launch. No response from developers.
Fantastic
This is a great app with guided courses for beginners that will start to take you through more advanced concepts. I highly recommend it. The crashing bug has been fixed :)
Very helpful tool for learning music
The developers fixed some crashing issues restoring this to a very useful app.
An issue I run into is if anything interrupts me during a lesson like a phone call, Perfect Ear loses the audio and will not play anymore so you have to abandon the lesson and start over to get audio back.
App crashes
Come on developers fix the crashing app already.
great app. but
it’s a great app to learn how to eat train but anytime i finish a lesson it crashes and doesn’t show that i did the lesson when i go back in, it also takes like 3 minutes to get back in
