So. Much. Talking! And patronising!

Darsidhe on

This is the 4th piano learning app I’ve tried, because I wanted to be sure to try as many as I could, before I signed up to one - they’d each been fun, engaging from the start, but each lacking its own thing - sight reading, for example. Playground promised most of what the others lacked, so I was hopeful. A few minutes into the first session of bootcamp, this app had this 50 year old woman dropping her head back, like a teenager, and groaning at the roof, “Oh my god, I get it. MOVE ON!” Now, I appreciate that I was starting at ‘rookie’ even though I have some musical knowledge but, as mine was in ‘cello and voice, I wanted to start the fingering from scratch. I could not find any way to do that without doing the “bootcamp”, so I expected to be a little bored but likely to pick up some tips, till I hit new stuff, as I had in the other 3 apps. I did not expect to be talked at for the whole first lesson as though I were a three year old with learning difficulties. This is not hyperbole. No-one who is old enough and literate enough to be using an app like this, needs the notes on the piano to be explained that slowly and repetitively. Nevertheless, I stuck it out, I went to the next section and a new teacher introduced himself, grinned, and revealed unto me that soon (soon!) I’d be ready to play my first NOTE! Yes! My first note! A whole note! Could it be? Surely not? But, oh! Fiddle-dee-dee! What fun that shall be, when ‘soon’ becomes ‘now’ and I’ll play middle C!! 🙄

So Good!

I have been wanting to be a professional pianist for ages. This app has helped me play much better music than just lullabies. It has amazing tips and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to be really good at playing at piano. The videos are very descriptive and the people in the video are always giving examples of whatever your learning to do. Currently, I’m learning how to read music on the bass staff. So anyone who wants to be excellent at playing piano, download this app!

Absolutely loving it so far

This app will keep me busy for many years to come/ loving it!

New to learning the piano

TrainJim on

I am just a beginner & I have found Playground to be an excellent tool. I especially like the idea of revisiting the lessons until you feel convenient enough to go on. I have only given Playground four out of five as I’ve just started using Playground but so far I’m happy with it. As I progress continues I will re-evaluate my star rating.

No downloads

wareyau on

I would give the new app 5 stars if you could still download content. I spend half my time waiting for the play icon to stop going round in circles. I realise that this is the fault of our Internet and not the app, so having content already downloaded would make the app exceptional.

4.9? Really?

Abbysmum on

How is this app rated 4.9 when all the reviews are one or two stars? I’ve downloaded the app because it looks terrific, but it just loads and reloads, impossible to use. I’ve deleted it and reinstalled, just as bad, now the sign in page won’t even stay up long enough to sign in. Such a pity. Glad I checked out the reviews before handing over any money, but very disappointing as the programme looks great. I’d be happy to try it out if the app is fixed.

Waste of money

ki4267 on

I am very unhappy with this app the content is grate but the app itself doesn’t work. Uninstalling every session to re installing is not acceptable

Buggy and problematic with no updates

JTango18 on

The content of this app is excellent and definitely useful for learning everything from basics to advancing your piano skills. This should be considered abandon-ware, unsupported by the developer, no updates and should be removed from the App Store. Do NOT give them your money.

Constantly needs reloading

Adhater 111111 on

Having to delete and reinstall the app every other session is maddening. The method is useful for some aspects of practice but it’s not a substitute for a real teacher to teach about touch, phrasing etc. I dislike the jangling accompaniments but they can be turned off.
