Collecting cards and earning rewards is where this app excels at. I know that Japanese people really enjoys and are addicted to games that involves luck, like pachinko. But for a PVP or PVE game that mechanic overruns and doesn’t really fit in to the competitive nature and feels like you’re being robbed, especially when you’re so unlucky to miss all 8 coin flips(0.4% chance btw). In contrast to MTG that is more of a tactical skill based game with the only luck based mechanic is what you draw, but even in MTG you have some control over your draw with scry and search mechanics. This Pokémon game have coin flips and they are the deciding factor in most decks, and there is little to no answers if you face off against counter types in PVP. You only have 20 cards in your deck that doesn’t allow much flexibility in strategy. The meta seems to be Mewtwo. Which is almost impossible to win against. And lots of the EX cards are really unbalanced. Whoever has the most EX cards wins. So yes, the gameplay feels more like a minigame on the side with little to no thought behind. just My rating would be 2.5/5 due two the two halves of the app. Collecting 👍 Gameplay 👎

Great, but...

The progression hits a wall after a few hours. After that, you're down to collecting two packs per day (three with premium) and there's nothing you can do about it outside of real money purchases. There's no clear matchmaking rating for versus either. The game might be awesome in a year, right now it feels like a high-resolution prototype for something yet to come

I have Coin flip issue

That ugly bird comes in every game I play in and always flip 3 coins I can’t set up and I lose. So fun and when I saw the celebi card Everyone was saying how they got so many tails but not for me it has gotten all like 10 flips and bombed me every time. How is it that every match I see a bird in the front and 3 heads. My anger issues can’t take it Ima still play it because its cool to Open packs but keep in mind flipping that coin is not all to this game.
