My favourite drawing and painting app!

Vulture Cage on

Had this for a couple of years now so I thought I’d write a review. Obviously I love it (hence the 5 stars) but if you are looking for a Procreate, Painter or Photoshop replacement then this isn’t really for you. Those apps are awesome for sure but this app is really aimed at those of us that just want to pick up a pen, pencil or paintbrush and start drawing and painting. Think of it as an enhanced version of your real life pens and paints :-) Here you have undo, and layers and very limited copy and paste… and that is about it! But you can really easily mix pen and ink with water colour, then use a hard eraser and then go over with a pencil and shade with a blending stump, all without the mess or waiting for it to dry! It really is easy to get into and is lovely to use. If you compare it to Photoshop or Procreate all you will see is missing features but neither of them can hold a candle to the way the pens and brushes work here, it just feels so real and it is an absolute joy to use.

Awesome

KoontyBollicks on

It’s awesome and I love the way it works alongside the PC version. The only drawback I see at the moment finger gestures trying to rotate with two fingers and 10 rotate with three fingers. I’m trying to zoom in zoom out and it’s very intermittent. I’ve also recently noticed that the undo button will not button the undo icon when tapping that doesn’t undo. Than that an absolutely brilliant application and like I said I love working with it. I’ve also bought the PC version I like to be able to work on the PC when I’m at the desk I save the file and I’m then able to export it to my iCloud folder and then when I wanna sit on the sofa all the way in bed and wanna finish off my drawing I can then pick up my iPad go into my iCloud folder and open it up from there and just carry on. I absolutely love the program it’s brilliant I could see if I was talking about it but I’m not going to let you find everything out for yourself but it is a brilliant package and I would totally totally totally suggest buying it Well done the devs and please keep going with it. It’s got so much that you can do with it, just just keep working on it. Thank you.

Just wow! Exactly what I was looking for.

I’ve been using Procreate for a while and it’s fantastic, it really is. This app though acts totally differently and is more like realistic painting. The water colour effects are just wonderful. I’ve found myself switching between this and Procreate to use the best features of both programmes and it’s working really well. It’s absolutely worth the money!

Lacking support/guidance

nofreeusernameslmao on

This isn’t an art program for professionals- but it’s a nice break from more serious industry standard tools. It’s really hard to work out what does what! My previous review stated I couldn’t rotate the canvas... But I can, it just wasn’t explained anywhere and was buried in the settings. Now I want to change what order my layers are in, and there’s likely a way.. But I can’t work it out with the vague support offered on the developers website.

A really great piece of software!

NotthatBobagain on

I have tried just about all the software and apps for drawing and painting both for PC and iPad. There are many good ones - some even brilliant. However all fall down on one or more crucial points. Realistic Paint Studio, for me, is the best of the lot. Don’t be put off by what might appear to be a patronising approach to ‘realistic’ interface. In practice in works really well and I am very comfortable with it. I find it to be the only piece of software (with the possible exception of Rebelle) that feels like traditional painting. Watercolour with RPS can be neat and precise but most of the brushes also give that watery and slightly uncertain feel. There is no real fluid flow, except for the ink bottle, but it feels like it because the brushes are so interactive and responsive to pressure. I hope this app becomes really popular and that the developer continues development because there are some relatively small improvements that would make it even better.

Brilliant Painting app

HaileMecael on

The developer deserves five stars for this. and keep up the good work son. The brush dynamics are actually more realistic than procreates. I want to answer some of the critiques that I read on here. The oil paint is shiny. That is rubbish. the oil paints are brilliant. The water paints are like painting with real water colour. The second thing I read is that it is a bit clunky. Again on the water colour it behaved in a way that it would if you were laying down real water colour. You had to take your time. what I did not see were brush strokes following my pen, that’s what i call chunky. Al I love the fact that this is not subscription. As I will not ever entertain stupid greed people. I can’t wait to do some art with this app. Like I said developer. bring it on man

Do not purchase

Samcartoon on

I just wasted £11.99 on this rubbish. It is truly bad. I have used many art apps but this is the worst. It is clunky and slow. I am asking for my money back from Apple. If you buy this app you will be disappointed. Sam

Not very good after testing. Watercolours can be fun, but the oils look terrible with its overly glossy textures. The power of its brushes was the only reason to buy this for its lack of a save-to-print option and its lack of resolution. The whole program just feels clunky. I’ll try to get a refund if I can...

Best app for traditional painters

Not your Auntie Roo on

This is the app to get if you are used to real traditional media painting but don’t want to learn the Photoshop-like controls of most digital media. These are brushes that mimic their real-world counterparts and cannot be tweaked other than for size. This is a great strength! Instead of getting bogged down endlessly tweaking and fussing, you just pick your brush and paint. Try not to use every tool and colour available in a single painting — as in real life, a limited set of tools and colours provides more harmonious effects. The app has some little niggles — stops working sometimes and needs a restart, the colour mixing in the palette is buggy and a bit of a mystery to me. The brush names are too small to read —although beautifully rendered — perhaps you could put them into the preview movie? I would love to see more step-by-step tutorials, and perhaps a revamped particle-based watercolour engine like Rebelle? But that would be a major upgrade. This is better than Procreate for thick paint effects with no fussing.

PROCREATE DOWNGRADE

Get Procreate it’s a lot easier to use and is exactly the same but better
