My favourite painting app
This app has my favourite brush engine of all the digital paint apps that I’ve used - and I think I have just about used them all. I love the versatility of the opacity blend brushes in particular. They allow you to paint and blend at the same time. It’s not simulating real world paint mixing which frustrates the heck out of me instead it is digitally blending the colours. To get the same effect in Procreate you need to lay down your colours, switch to a blending brush and then blend, it’s so much quicker in PSS.
I keep playing with other digital painting apps when they come out with shiny new updates but I always seem to return to Paintstorm Studio when I want get some serious painting done.
Excellent Application
I’ve used paint storm for over a year now and I have to say that I love this software so much. I bought it twice once for the iPad and also for my iMac as I also have a Wacom Cintiq 16. I like the free bob ross brushes you can download.
iPad Pro 2015
It’s so slow and laggy on the higher mandala settings and brush settings, it’s way to complicated and the interface is far from simple. It’s all scattered about.
What’s happened! Not good on iPad now
There are so many small problems it’s no fun using Paintstorm anymore
Looks nice
But it is unusably slow. If I pick a texture brush and draw a few zig zags then nothing appears for a couple of seconds then very slowly the drawing appears. This is on a 4th Gen iPad Pro 12.9” with the Apple Pencil 2 using the latest version and latest iOS.
Doing much the same in Procreate gets an immediate response so it isn’t the device.
Hopefully it will improve.
Brilliant app but problems with iOS 14
Unfortunately there are problems with the title bar on iOS 14.
Can you look into this please?
Easily the best
Love the brushes and general feel of painting, amazing.
Main menu unresponsive
I was looking forward to using this app but I cannot get the main menu to work 95% of the time. I have emailed the developer but have yet to receive a response.
Save folder needed ?
First I’m using this on my iPad Pro not sure if it makes any difference on what platform its used. But when I go to save my drawing it saves it as jpeg /png or to iTunes or icloud but I feel it should have its own folder so it’s not relaying on network .If I make a load of layers, one would like to save them on the system your using.
The lay out of the tools needs an update its a bit clutter up plus there a good bit of lag when using some of its brushes and maybe a bit to many that kind of do the same thing . It’s got a lot of good brushes all the same and a good amount of tools for editing.
It’s not to say it’s a bad software but needs a bit of declutter and a more simple design . But keep rocking team.
The most astonishing app
Sergei, I hope you aren't too discouraged by some of the reviews. I can't imagine what sort of effort it required to make Paintstorm but the level of control offered goes way beyond Coral painter, Procreate, Photoshop, and even the esoteric Studio Artist. This makes a learning curve more 3000 meter steeplechase than Sunday morning jog. The interface can be frustrating. Ditto lack of written explanation. Nevertheless - Paintstorm delivers an almost perfect digital metaphor of real world art in the sensitivity of stroke and the mixing and viscosity of pigment. This is one exceptionally well engineered brush engine. The files resulting from it can be stunning. I'm not knocking any of the other programs. They all have their advantages. But Paintstorm is a beast. It also has a host of hidden gems squirreled away to amaze and delight when you eventually discover them! Hats off to you Sergei. 🎈
