RedShelf Reviews

The listening to function is garbage.

Bootzie2 on

Don't expect to understand 90% of the "voices" that will read the audio aloud. Most are synthesized voices, and there's even a "cello" voice that sounds like the word is singing to you. Why is that an option? Why are more than 90% of the voices unrecognizable? Easy to use while reading but the audio is horrendous. Hopefully no one has any reading disabilities and need assistance because this app doesn't offer it

Garbage

Kangawooso on

Read out loud function is horrendous; it stops at the end of each paragraph when your smartphone's screen is off, a ton of mispronounced words, and horrible selection of voices. Then there's the problem of the app constantly freezing when you are trying to return to where you left off.

What even is this app

AshleyW97 on

United States

You can’t swipe to flip the page, you can’t undownload off a device to download onto another, there are pages with 10 words on them instead of being in a normal ebook format so using the text to speech option is awful since you have to press next page and start to even use it. This app could be so much better. Please fix these things.

Can I give it 0 stars?

My school uses this application to force me to try and read or listen to textbooks through it. The automated reading feature is the worst thing I have ever heard. There are many choices for voices to read the text to you, but nearly all of them are just horrible. this app has forced me to spend $130 to buy the book since even the navigation through the book is just horrible.

Solid e-reader but only on tablet and computer

Reading a book on iPhone on this app is a real eye-strainer because the zoom function has a negligible effect on font size. So the text remains quite small no matter what you do. This is a major problem and mars an otherwise good user experience.

Love the accessibility and performance

Help me to read and study for exams on the go. Red Shelf does a great job with assisting you with all of the necessary materials to an in-depth perspective for your project and research.

Low quality text-to-voice and the highlighting function is glitchy

Also, every page takes time to load which slow down page turning

Works great!

Absolutely amazing and user friendly app for reading textbooks

Very good app

App is just as good as the online website based e-reader; it is very subpar. I expect nothing less from the mediocrity of RedShelf. It is something to be expected. Nothing new.

Horrible!

I would give this a zero star if I could. I seriously hate the app! Worst reading app! Studying from their website does NOT make the experience better at all. It’s difficult to highlight and take notes, and it has very, very limited features. I highly prefer using another reading app like Pearson+ or Kindle for school textbooks. Next time, I’m going to opt out from my school’s Inclusive Access program through Red Shelf because this is an abysmal experience! I wish I was able to do this earlier. I’d rather obtain my textbooks and study elsewhere than have to deal with this very horrendous app for a whole semester! Lesson learned.
