User-generated routes gone on map tab

Mateomeoteo on

United States

While the auto-generated routes are a cool feature, I’m really struggling to see why user-generated routes were removed from the map tab in the app. Yes, I know I can see “best routes in the region” on the home tab and my favorited routes are still accessible, but I can no longer see what other app users may have created near me which is incredibly frustrating. I’m not sure why user-generated AND auto-generated routes can’t BOTH be visible on the map tab; that would keep everyone happy. Limiting the way we can use the app just feels like bad design. Also, I noticed when I do choose a user-generated route, it no longer takes me directly there and instead tries to make a “fun route” on the way there. While this might work for some users, I would rather just get to the route I wanna check out ASAP and do that route. Once again, options would be nice here. Please consider this feedback; I’ve really enjoyed using this app for about a year and these recent updates are admittedly disappointing.

Needs work

Please bring back the map function to explore other area’s routes. The auto generated routes are cool but the real gem of this app was giving the users the ability to record their own route and share it with their friends/local backroad enthusiasts. If I could go back to the previous rendition of the app i would in a heartbeat, this new version is not user friendly

Good concept but not functional enough to execute

I really like the idea of what the app is. I like that it can generate routes to give you a new experience. But like other reviews, it doesn’t allow for deviations from the route if you want to take in the scenic aspects of your route. My biggest frustration is that you can’t change/inverse the direction of your route when you generate it. Even when choosing a starting point, what if I want to start going straight but the app makes me do a U-turn instead. It’s things like this that makes me frustrated and enough to never open the app or outright delete it. Good concept but it needs more work.

Hard to use

The auto generated roads work perfect but if you try to jot down your own route the thing messes it up frequently. ETA functions don’t work either.

Great idea....but needs much more work

It's a great idea for an app: tell me where you are, and what kinda drive you want to do, and I will create a route for you. And if you like it, share it with your friends. However, it's at Beta at best. Two reasons: (1) it has a hard time understanding you are already on the route. Unless you start exactly where the route begins, it will try to reroute you. So don't leave andoad the app - by the time it's loaded you are on the route, and you're toast. (2) the routing algorithm needs major corrections. It will give you a general idea where to go, and typically that general route is very good. However, it will constantly route you of the main route, through neighborhoods - I guess to add more turns? One time it avruakky wanted me to go through a school parking lot. On small loops you can disobey and just follow the general direction, not so if the loop is a few blocks. Major annoyance, not to say potentially hazardous.

Can't seem to get back on route

Taedgh on

Routinely the GPS seems to completely drop and roads loses track of where I am. More than once I'd be coming up to an intersection and realize that roads had just stopped paying attention to where I was. So I'd go through the intersection, get pulled over, then the route on roads would show me some place that I was supposed to turn a while back, but doesn't give me the directions to get back to where the turn is... What is up with that? Every other navigation app redirects you when you get off course... It's very frustrating.

Close, but not quite there…

I would like to continue using the app, as it did set up a decent route, but I wish it would allow deviations from the designed route. We were having a great drive, and found a fun looking road so decided to take a turn the app had not created. Once we deviated, the app wanted us to turn back and continue from the last point where we had deviated the app has created. That created a frustrating moment, and environment, so we ended up turning off the app. Earlier on that same drive, we stopped for gas, and exited the parking lot at a different exit that we entered, so the app would not continue with the route until we turned back and exited from the entrance we entered the gas station. Not a fun moment. I removed the app from my phone, as every time I considered using it, I realized I wanted to be able to stop to see the sights along the way, and the app would ultimately just be a distraction from the fun because of the issues. Sorry

Why can’t I record a course you used to be able to on an earlier version? it’s pretty useless if you can’t.

Good could be great

The current version (3.2.161) still has trouble rerouting if you miss part of a route or don’t pass through the start point. Another feature that would be great to have is an easy option to drive a route in reverse. Edit: Rerouting is still broken in 3.2.244 and even worse now it it wants to route detours through parking lots and adjacent driveways. After trying to use it again I ended up needing to switch to a different nav app 1/4 of the way through a 300 mi drive so I’m deleting a star from my original review.

So very disappointing

Jdstein11 on

I finally found a free Saturday and called up the Roads app to find a fun drive up to Bear Mountain State Park. Waze called for a 55 min drive, so I was encouraged when Roads predicted a 90 min journey. Northern NJ has some amazing, spirited roads so I eagerly set out to follow the route. However, right away, I noticed odd guidance through 25 mph zones. The app directed me through a parking lot, then returned me to continue on my current road, so I ignored its detour through the lot and continued on, yet the app repeatedly urged me to turn around and go back through the lot. I stopped and restarted the route to get back on track, but again, all I saw was slow drives through light after light. After 90 minutes of barely exceeding 40 mph at the top speed, I frustratedly deleted the app and used Waze. 15 min later, I reached my destination and used Waze to return home on the Pallisades Pkwy, a terrific road with speed and scenery that I sought from the beginning. Porsche has a LOT of work to do to get me to try this again.
